Retail Sales up on Powerboats by 4.5 Percent for 2017

The latest version of the NMMA Data Dashboard -- the interactive report containing boat and outboard engine wholesale and retail sales statistics, and trends in associated economic and related-industry (e.g., RVs) metrics with graphs illustrating recent and historical trends -- is now available. 

The latest Dashboard data includes:

  • New traditional powerboats closed 2017 with retail sales growth of 4.5%, while wholesale shipments performed at 9.5%
  • Consumer confidence improved in May to 128, tracking closely to the 17-year record of 130 reported in February
  • The positive outlook among small businesses also strengthened in May as the Small Business Index peaked at 107.8, a near all-time record for the metric
  • New construction of privately-owned housing hit its highest rolling 3-month (R3M) level since August 2007 with growth of 14.3% through May on an R3M basis compared to 2016
  • The U.S. purchasing managers index continues to show expansion in the manufacturing sector, reaching 58.7 in May, an increase over April.
