BOARDMAN, Oregon – Ronald Mace of Kennewick, Wash. fished his way to victory at the third stop of the BAM Super 60 Pro Tour 2025 season weighing a five-fish limit of 18.21 on Championship Sunday at the Columbia River in the televised Bass Boat Technologies three-day event presented by Tackle Warehouse, the Boardman Community Development Association and Conservation Sponsor Fisherman’s Warehouse.
“It’s unbelievable,” he said. “I have been studying for this tournament for a year. I can’t believe I did it.”
Mace credits a lot of practice for his success.
“I went for big fish the whole tournament,” he shared. “The first day I tried to minnow fish, and I am a bad LiveScoper. so, I abandoned that and started fishing a point with shad.”
Mace’s adjustment paid off and on Day Two he started on the same spot.
“I had my limit by 10 o’clock – 18 ½ pounds,” he said.
Mace targeted a shallow weedy area.
“You would throw it out there as far as you could – you couldn’t see the fish – let it hit the bottom, shake it around a little bit, you would see a V come over and boil on the bait,” he said. “I could call my shots. It was a blast.”
Although his area could be as shallow as 10-inches of water, the fluctuations didn’t change the bite.
“The water came up and I caught ‘em – the water went down and I still caught ‘em,” he said. “I think when it’s your day, it’s your day. It was just meant to be. I didn’t lose any. I didn’t make any bad decisions.”
A Green Pumpkin Yamamoto Senko was the only bait that Mace threw the entire weekend.
“I used 10-pound braid – PowerPro on a 7’ rod,” he stated. “You needed to be able to cast a long ways and the light braid cuts through the weeds pretty good.”
Mace’s shallow water mastery resulted in grand prize winnings of $50,000 including a Mercury-powered BassCat Boat.
Ty Manterola Finds A Magical Smallmouth Spot
For Ty Manterola of Pasco, Wash., who has already earned multiple second-place finishes on the Super 60 Pro Tour, the event blasted off with an Angler of the Year win on his mind.
“I don’t have a ton of experience in the Boardman pool, so to keep my AOY dreams alive, I was just hoping to get a check and so I am proud of my finish,” he said.
Manterola found what he called a “magical spot” late on Day One.
“I found it right at the end of the day so I caught everything I could at the last half hour of the day, barely made it to weigh in on time and caught a four pounder on my last cast, which kept me in check range on the first day,” he said. “On Day Two I went back to the spot and realized just how special it was. I caught the most keepers out of anybody on Day Two. I had 42.”
During the morning of the final day, Manterola switched focus from smallies to largemouth.
“I spent about four hours trying to catch ‘em,” he said. “I saw two or three six-pounders swimming together, tried to get ‘em to go and couldn’t. I went back to smallmouth fishing, culled up a bunch and got to second.”
Lure choices for Manterola included a four-inch Strike King Zero Z-Too in Green Pumpkin or Dirty Shad, colors that matched the crawdads he saw in the bass’ crushers. He also caught a few on a Sakamata Shad.
“The majority were on a 7’11” U-Call Midnight spinning rod,” he shared. It’s my favorite minnow rod and favorite dropshot rod. It keeps ‘em pinned, its super sensitive and at a great price point. I had a Shimano Stradic 3000 spinning reel with 10-pound sinking U-Call Forward Facing Sonar Braid and Sunline FC Sniper in 10-pound with a 3/8 Queen Tackle LS tungsten LiveScope jighead.”
Manterola summed up his fishing days by saying, “Fishin’ to win you make high risk decisions, that’s how it goes.”
He claimed $10,020 for the runner-up position, which included $500 Bass Boat Technologies contingency dollars.
Tyler Madden Locks in Third with Versatile Topwater Approach
Tyler Madden of Brentwood, Calif. rounded out the top-three with a mix of presentations. His most productive bait was a 2.5-inch STORM Chug Bug in Chartreuse with a red head.
“I was throwin’ it on a 7’1” fast action handmade rod with a 2500 Vanford reel with 10-pound PowerPro braid and 13-pound Sunline Mono leader,” he said.
When windier conditions changed things, Madden opted for a Saltwater Super Spook Day Two.
“I threw that with a 7’3” medium-heavy handmade rod, an Abu Garcia Zenon 8.3:1, 40-pound braid with 17-pound Sunline mono leader,” he shared.
His two-prong approach netted a payout of $8,377.
BAM Super 60 Pro Tour Columbia River Results Day 3
Fans can follow the Bass Boat Technologies BAM Super 60 Pro Tour anglers during each event live on TourneyX, watch the weigh-ins live at the BAM Trail website or join in-person at the weigh-ins each day.
Note: For the first two days, BAM Pro Tour anglers are ranked in Pro Tour events by both the heaviest five fish limit (Weight) and numbers of scorable bass caught (Keepers).
First place is held by the angler with the five heaviest bass, and second place is the highest keeper count. The standings then continue to alternate by weight/keepers.
Anglers ranked by weight on the leaderboard are denoted with an asterisk.
Anglers add to both of their Day One rankings on Day Two as an accumulated two-day total. Once both days are tallied, the field is cut to the top-10, all results are zero-ed out and the final 10 anglers fish for the five heaviest bass on Day Three to determine the champion.
