It was another busy year for the team at Abu Garcia. They revamped many popular products, including the entire REVO lineup of baitcast and spinning reels. They also unleashed a high-end line of baitcast reels as well as two new reels for those on a budget. Abu also added an extensive lineup of new rods that were developed with the help of their top-tier pro staff.
Here's what's new for Abu Garcia after ICAST 2022.
Zenon Baitcast Reels
The Zenon is a relatively new line of reels for Abu Garcia, beginning when they unveiled the Zeno spinning reel a few years ago. Now, three new reels carry the name and they are incredibly lightweight and full of features.
The MG-LTX is a flagship $549.95 reel that weighs just 4.6-ounces with a gear ratio of 8.3:1. It has an alloy frame, Ceramalite bearings and spool designed to cast lightweight lures exceptionally long distances. The next up is MG-X LP, which retails for $449.95, weighs 5.1-ounces and has ten bearings and a 90mm carbon handle. Finally, it's Zenon X, a 5.5-ounce reel that retails for $349.95. It has an alloy frame, nine total bearings and will be available in two speeds: 6.8:1 and 8.3:1.
Max 40 and 60 LP Reels
The Abu Garcia Max name has been around for years and the newest to carry on the tradition are the 40 and 60 LP. They have custom reel handle knobs, bent aluminum power and a 4+1 bearing system that includes four stainless steel bearings and a roller bearing.
They come in two sizes: a 40 with a 6.4:1 gear ratio and retails for $159.95 and a 60 size with a 5.8:1 gear ratio and retails for $179.95.
Both come in right and left-handed retrieves and they will be available in the spring of 2023. They also have 24-pounds of drag, including Abu's Carbon Matrix Drag System.
All New Revo Baitcast and Spinning Reels
The Revo family has become a staple in bass fishing, with a new generation coming out every few years. This year, Abu Garcia revamped them all with new cosmetics and some great features that will help anglers with even better casting and performance on the water.
The spinning models borrowed some of the looks from the high-end Zenon spinning reel. This includes the asymmetric body that makes it more compact and the rotor and spool design that make them lighter than ever. The new spinning reels include the Revo X (119.95), Revo SX ($169.95), Revo Winch ($169.95), and Revo Rocket ($199.95).
One highlight in the new Revo line is the new Revo Rocket spinning reel, a lightning-fast reel that will significantly benefit those fishing while watching their forward-facing sonar. The bright red reel has a lightning fast 7.6:1 spinning reel that allows anglers to quickly get their bait in to make another presentation, whether watching their sonar or quickly attacking targets above the surface.
For the baitcast models, the entire line received a facelift. Like the spinning reels, the design has gone to a more compact look and feel. The EXD concept helps with improved casting distance and the reels have oversized gears and maximum drag for durability and strength.
The new Revo baitcast reel models include the Revo X ($119.95), Revo SX ($169.95), Revo STX ($229.95), Revo Winch ($229.95), and Revo Rocket ($329.95). The Winch is designed for cranking applications and the Revo Rocket features an incredible 10.1:1 gear ratio that boasts 43.5-inches of line movement per turn of the reel handle.
There are also a handful of new combos, including five models retailing for under $200. They include three Revo X reels baitcast reels with 30-ton graphite rods and two Revo X spinning reels with the same quality rods.
Pro Series Rods
Coming this fall is a new line of technique-specific rods called the Pro Series. Abu leaned on the expertise of their top pro bass anglers to create a line of rods that fit their fishing styles and preferences.
They are strong rods with Abu's Powerlux 200 in the 36-ton blanks. They are light sensitive and will be offered for 16 different models (12 casting and four spinning) and retail for under $200. Some of the models include a Justin Lucas "Shakey Head/Neko Rig," Josh Bertrand "Drop-Shot," Bobby Lane "Swim Jig," Hunter Shryock "Heavy Flipping," and a John Cox "All Purpose" rod.
Like they do every year, Abu Garcia continues to push for innovation when it comes to rods and reels. They have consistently improved over the years with smoother and better casting reels and lighter and more sensitive rods. The above products continue their legacy and should have all Abu fans excited about the new items.
