Bajío has burst onto the scene and, in a short timeframe, became a major player in the quality sunglass game. Last year, they were at ICAST and unveiled the new company that is made up of veterans in the premium sunglass world. Just one year later, they were taking home the award at ICAST 2022 for best eyewear at the biggest show in bass fishing with their new Roca frames.
It's been a meteoric ride for the new company and they continue to grow with lenses that are built for anglers that target all species. They are making waves with incredibly clear and quality sunglasses. Here's a look at what's new with the company and what makes them different.
The ICAST Award-Winning Roca Frames
The ICAST awards are voted on by members of the media and retail buyers and can make or break a new product. Category winners get plenty of attention and the voting is super competitive, making Bajío's Roca award even more impressive for a new company. This marks their first big win at the ICAST show, but they are poised to be a player for years to come with a great team that is hyper-focused on making the best sunglasses with the clearest lenses on the market.
Their lenses are made from bio-based nylon and have an extra-large frame designed to provide complete coverage. This includes Roca, which are stylish and full of features like their LAPIS™ lens technology to block blue light and reduce eye fatigue. These new frames are offered in three lens colors (shoal tortoise matte, black matte, and brown tortoise matte), both glass and polycarbonate lenses, and seven lens tints. The retail price is $199 for the polycarbonate and $249 for the glass version.
What Makes Bajío Different?
There are many options when it comes to fishing sunglasses and sometimes it can be challenging for a company to stand out in a crowd. Bajío has done that and catapulted into the scene by making big moves. They are doing this with four key items they focus on daily.
One is the clarity of their lenses: they focus on eliminating the blue light haze and having lens colors that are designed for all light conditions. They also commit to service with a lifetime warranty and a quick turnaround time to get back on the water with them as soon as possible. Sustainability is another primary focus, including using frames made from plants and cactus leather cases. The company has been carbon neutral since its inception. They are also employee-owned and operated and the sunglasses are built in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Some of the cool features they built into their sunglasses include keeper holes for sunglass holding cables, flex hinges for better fit, vented rubber nose pads, textured rubber temple tips and more. Everything is thought out and there to make your life easier on the water.
Plenty of Lens Options
One thing that Bajío does exceptionally well is providing plenty of lens color options. They include some angler favorites like a blue mirror, green mirror, and silver mirror, but that's not it. Also in their lineup are colors like a violet mirror, which are their lightest high contrast lenses and a rose mirror, which is made for fishing the flats and sight fishing for bass. They also have a gray base for low contrast for a natural look and a copper base that gives the glasses a high contrast to locate fish and underwater structure better.
They all feature the LAPIS™ technology, Bajío's proprietary technology that filters out yellow and harmful blue light. This helps to improve lens clarity and reduce glare and blur. It blocks up to 95 percent of blue light for the best clearest possible lenses.
Clothing Options
In addition to sunglasses, Bajío also has a line of clothing that includes hats and shirts that showcase the style and look of the brand. A bass-themed shirt and several more species are included in the lineup. They make a cool shirt called the "Rooster Tee, "designed with Xcalak, Mexico in mind. Ten dollars of every shirt purchase goes to the beach's cleanup efforts, which often gets trash washed up from cruise ships. This is just another effort that highlights their effort for sustainability and taking care of the environment.
The team at Bajío takes sunglasses seriously and protecting the environment with sustainability efforts is just as important. Their ICAST award for their Roca frames is their first, but they are poised to have many more in the years to come.
