November 2015 – With the Wild West Bass Trail set to launch in January 2016, much time and thought
has gone into selecting the tournament directors and weigh masters/MC’s. Each one brings a unique and
universal perspective to the WWBT. Their reputations speak for themselves. The Wild West Bass Trail
has already garnered great interest and commitment from West Coast anglers and the following individuals
will help build our tournaments and participation to new and exciting levels of competition.
California:
Tournament director for Pro/AM and Teams:
Jason Bubier:
“I would like to thank Wild West Bass Trails for affording me the opportunity to be the Director of California
Events. I believe that my time fishing tournaments in the late 90’s until 2010, as well as being a local tournament
Director for the past 8 years will enable me to help WWBT run very professional, fair and fun
events. I believe the West has long needed something different. I believe if given the chance the WWBT
has the ideas and great payouts to put the spark back into the tournament fishing scene. I am excited to
be able to have a chance to help build this company. I will always be open to suggestions or comments
about ways to improve from anyone. Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions or concerns
and I will respond to any and all calls/emails/texts as soon as I possibly can.”
MC for WWBT CA Pro/AM:
Craig Gottwals
In his 12 years in the fishing industry, Craig has written articles for numerous national publications, hosted
Western focused television shows with legendary fishermen like Robert Lee, delivered seminars, and
served as an ambassador for the sport in the mainstream media.
Craig is a formerly sponsored tournament fisherman who now focuses his time more on the recreational
and promotional side of the sport by regularly fishing with media and sports celebrities like Joe Getty of
the Armstrong and Getty Radio Show, Lisa Gonzales of Sacramento’s NBC affiliate KCRA, former San
Francisco 49er Patrick Willis and former San Jose Shark and Bay Area Hall of Famer, Owen Nolan.
Outside of the fishing world, Craig is a nationally renowned legal expert on health care and health insurance.
Those endeavors regularly have Craig on syndicated radio shows, such as the Michael Berry
Show or writing about issues in U.S. healthcare.
Arizona:
Tournament director for Pro/AM’s:
Paul Alpers
With over 17 years of experience as a tournament director and owner of major Crappie tournaments, Paul
has a great vision and knowhow of what is necessary for tournaments to be successful and enjoyable. As
a tournament director of fishing tournaments in the mid-west and south east for many years, his experience
and unwavering dedication will be a huge addition to the WWBT.
“I am very proud to accept the position of the WWBT Arizona Pro/AM Tournament Director. It is my goal to
help make the WWBT an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all involved. I look forward to working
with our sponsors, local communities, and anglers. We are going to bring back the big paybacks that draw
the numbers. We hope to generate a great return for the communities that host our events for many years
to come.”
MC for WWBT AZ Pro/AM:
Randy McBride
Bass tournaments are not anything new to Randy McBride. He was a tournament director for FLW for 17
years and a B.A.S.S tournament director for over 4 years. He will be the MC for the WWBT AZ Pro/Am
tournaments.
“I am ecstatic to be a part of the Wild West Bass Trail. While running events for FLW and BASS for over
22 years combined, the West Coast tournaments were the greatest experience of all. I always enjoyed
working with and talking to the anglers. I really look forward to being out there with them again. This new
tournament trail is exclusively designed for anglers. We look forward to providing a great product for anglers
to compete in. WWBT will bring back exciting events to the West Coast again”.
Tournament director for AZ Teams:
Jim Kirkwood
“This circuit is just what the West Coast Anglers have been waiting for. With a Low entry fee, outstanding
payback and the ability to compete without traveling long distances, what more could the anglers ask for?
This is an affordable circuit for the working angler, not to mention great sponsorship support and room for
expansion. I am thrilled to be a part of the Wild West Bass Trail.”
