I would get the max HP your boat allows. The boat will perform best with the max HP.
Best of luck,

You cant fix stupid, but you can vote it out...

Go with the 150 – I when with 115 and that is the only thing about my boat (Tracker V-18 ) I wish I did different but it was my first boat.

go with the 150, it will help the resale later on, you can get good fuel economy with it if you drive it sensibly.

My buddy has a 115 on his 17 ft Nitro, loves the mileage and wouldn't do it different if he had the chance, but it might not be as economical on a larger craft.

I get about 54-55MPH @5600 RPM great mileage for the power. I love that little 115 Opti. But if I were you I would be looking at a 115 or a 150, a 135 is a de-tuned 150 so why not get the power for the weight?
Good luck!

Re: 115 135 OR 150
150 no question about it, the resale will be terrible if you undersize the motor to the hull, plus you want that extra power.

Re: 115 135 OR 150
If it's rated 150,, go w a 150.... the boat will perform better and have better resale.................... if you can't afford it (a reality we all live with).... get a smaller boat but get it w the max rated HP.... an underpowered boat just plain sucks
thats a good rull to go by for any bass boat rated up to 250...... beyond that boat manufacturers give ratings like unlimited, or 300hp, or super turbo flux capacitor nitro stuff...... 250 is all any bass rig currently made needs to fly......

Re: 115 135 OR 150
Let me give you some advice I wish somebody had given me when in 2004 I bought a Nitro 188. I went with the 115 because I had very little experience with boats and was assured by the salesman that it was "enough". I was never satisfied with the performance. It's not the top speed you have to worry about it's running at full RPM and lugging to get out of the hole if you have more than 1 person on board. It also will NOT pull you up on a single ski. It would be fine for pulling tubes. The 189 is a bigger heavier boat and is rated for a 200. I would not put less than a 175 on it. Think about what we're talking about. Upgrade the motor and you may pay $30-50 more per month. Don't up grade and you will have a devil of a time selling it and will never be happy with the performance. I really like Nitros but they use underpowering to keep they're prices low and the inexperienced can be sold a severely underpowered boat. Skimp on other things at first. You can always upgrade electronics or things like that but you are stuck with the motor you start with. Repowering a new boat is not a cost effective solution but believe me you will consider it if you get that boat with a 115, 135, and possibly even with a 150. PM me if you need any other info about Nitro Fish and Ski boats.

DANNY - Every bassboat owner will tell you the same thing, and NoCAL said it best. "Good enough" never is when you're able to afford alittle better.

i have a 200hp now.......... next boat will be a 250, just the nature of the beast.
