X-125 settings

Post by RXMAN »

Ken,
I'm having problems setting my front unit X-125 ... My main console has a LCD 28-HD which can mark arches but I can't seem to get the same on my X-125??? Is it the sensitivity? Or would I see the same on both units? I'm using Minnkota universal sonar on TM

thanks....

The LCX 28c HD is a better sonar unit, more power and better software package to show fish and structure on the sonar. The X125 is older and smaller without the power and technology of the LCX 28 so it will be limited when you make a comparison between the two. If you only had a X125 you wouldn't notice the difference. It would be the same step up if you had an HDS and the LCX on the boat at the same time. The HDS is as much better than the LCX as the LCX is over the X series.

But you can adjust the sensitivity settings, probably increase the sensitivity, on the X125 to see if you get a better reading. Then you could try connecting a Lowrance transducer to the back of the X125 and hang it into the water and see if it shows more detail than the universal ducer in the motor. I have seen the Lowrance transducer to be better in most cases.

Ken,
Thanks for the info.... guess I better get a better unit up front.
I have another question.... My friend has the same LCX 28c HD as mine and he cannot get the GPS to work. Looks like the satellites are not being received. He's done a hard reset and location comes up someplace in Tulsa, OK.... I hook my unit to his connections and it still does not work. The sonar is ok but it seems that the antennae is not working.... Is this a connection issue or bad cable to the unit from the external antennae?
Normally when the power is turned on the message comes up that its trying to find the location... this doesn't happen on either unit.

thanks...

The LCX 28c HD's use a LCG 3000. These antennas can go bad after years of service. If you can get your hands on a new LCG 3000 and try it and it works then it is the old antenna. If the new antenna doesn't work either then you need to check the power to the NMEA network. You may have a hot or ground wire loose or a fuse burned out.

Thanks Ken...... We'll check it out.... didn't know about the fuse because the unit does come on... it just doesn't read the location..

I say a "fuse" because if the NMEA network is powered with a power node, this is a tee with a hot and ground wire coming out of the top of the tee and you connect these so the antenna can get power. When a power node hot wire is connected to a power source, it should have a fuse inline before the buss board. If this fuse is blown, then the antenna will not work. The unit has it's own power source but some NMEA networks are powered through the head unit and if this is the case with yours then the fuse is irrelevant since the head unit comes on.
