99 TR-21PDC with Yamaha 250 VMAX SHO and 10" bobs hyd p

Post by offduty »

Anyone have any ideas on what prop and pitch I should buy for this boat?

I should pick up my 250 SHO tomorrow in Costa Mesa and the 10" bobs hydraulic jack plate will be at my Yamaha dealers on monday. Sure wish that other motor had not blew. I'm just under $20,000.00 without the Yamaha dealers installation bill.

I would like to get the best prop possible and have heard different things about different props. Some say 3 blade VMAX ventless prop and some say the TR-21 loves 4 blades. I have also heard the 25P fury with plugs will be good as well. Since I will have a hydraulic plate I should be able to play around on the water and get the set up dialed in but I would like to find a good prop. I got 10 hours of break in time and then I can try to dial it in.

Thanks
Rich

Congrats on an awesome motor choice, Rich. If you got it at Maurer Marine, say hello to Garrett for me. They are a 5-star dealer and great to work with.

Skeeter told me they tried every prop out there and to get the "neck breaking " holeshot or the top speed of just over 80 you needed to use either a 25VMax or 27 lightning or VMAX

I appreciate the info, I just am not convinced if the TR-21 will run the same with the same prop as the Skeeter as they are a very different hull.
Thanks

Im sure you are right, but the Yammie and skeeter guys point was the FX was built for it.

Personally I would try a TXP turbo 4 blade in a 26 with a pitch higher and lower handy.
You will probably end up liking a 25

The motor is coming from the Yamaha Georgia warehouse and will be delivered to West Coast Marine service in Costa Mesa tomorrow. I called everywhere on the Yamaha dealer finder within driving distance. and they all said they could not get a motor to ship until the 2nd of september.

I got a call from WCMS about 5:00 that night from Virginia and she somehow got them to cut loose with one. I don't know how she did it but she said she tried real hard and seemed to have some pull.

The next day Richard from C&C marine called and said he had one for $18.325.00 which was the best and same price. Unfortunately I had already put a deposit down or I probably would have drove to Modesto. All in all I found 4 motors and the other 2 were on iboats but more expensive.

Fury prop was designed for the 21X. Your hull is somewhat different from the X-boats but I think a Fury would still run well on it. I'm sure you'll need more than a 25 though. Unfortunately the gurus at BassBoat Central won't be able to tell you the best prop until you run something and can give them numbers. So whatever you get, go out and test it and then have the following info available: Top speed, RPMs, water pressure, prop to pad measurement, number of vent holes open or closed, water temp and air temp. With those numbers you can get a good idea of where to go. 26 Tempest runs well on my X-boat but the SHO is so new, maybe just go with what the installers decide until you can get the numbers.

I came across a deal for a 27P Solas scorpion for $225.00 shipped and new. It is supposed to be the same geometry as the SHO VMAX T-1 prop. Looks like I will start there. I did post quite a bit on BBC that is where I found it.
