520 replacement lids, Help

Post by Fish Trap »

I have a couple of compartment lids that are cracked and about ready for someone to fall through on my 2000 520 Ranger. What is the best way to get these fixed, replaced, repaired, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure about repair, I have replaced 5 on my 519. Ranger will still make them, it takes about 4 weeks usually. They are not cheap. $100 for one live well lid, $280 for rear side storage lid. Hope i never need the rod locker lids, didn't ask what they cost. They do come carpeted ready to install, however the new carpet is heavier and they can be harder to open.

I had mine replaced on my 519 under warranty a few years ago, however I have done a few repairs for people using fiberglass w/cloth to re-enforce them.

Best way is to just bite the bullit and call Ranger. Give them the mfg # and they will make one with or without the hinge already to install with carpet that matches the ORIG color. It may not match yours depending on how much fade you have, but it's by far the best way to go. I've seen guys that try to repair them and it just doesn't hold up and looks pretty bad. A 520 is a class act and should be kept that way.

I had a guy a while back that needed a deck lid for his boat and I took the lid to an aluminum shop.
They took a thick piece of aluminum and folded it and welded it and put on the hinge and cut the hole
for the lock. It fit perfect and is still going strong. I think it cost about $90 total. This was 1999 so
I suppose about $110 would do it today. I had the carpet and did that for $40. So total was about $130.
I saw the boat about 2 years ago and it still looks good.
Just another idea.

But as far as fixing a lid, never.

Thanks,
I emailed Ranger the pictures. They only warranty for 3 years but depending on the pics they said they may be able to help me out (boat is 11 years old and I am third owner) Sounded like they were going to work with me. For the time being I had some fiberglass repair and tried to fix it or strengthen in from the underside. If I recarpet this winter I will buy a new one try some of these ideas.
