998C SI problems after update

Post by offduty »

I loaded the newest software update on to my 998 and it does not give me GPS or speed anymore. I did restore to defaults left the unit on and inserted the software upgrade. The 998 is hooked to an 1197 on the bow with the interlink and has the weathersense installed and satellite weather although I do not have the subscription yet. Everything works except the GPS and speed readout and I have gone back to the old update and re updated with the new again and still no go. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Mr. Duty/Fellow Swimbaiter :),

Have you gone to the setup tab (the one with the wrenches icon). Then goto ADVANCED USER then this will show a Select Readouts option. Click on that and that should allow you to activate each readout as you would like. You may have already tried this but I wanted to be sure.

Yeah I tried that. It says it is not hooked up to GPS.

Had everything working perfect. Spent the whole day while on vacation and should have been fishing. Today was dedicated to tracing all wires and using label tape to indicate what the end of each wire was. Then hooked it all up according to Humminbird diagram and everything works. Turned it off and then back on and the 1197 on the bow is not bright enough to see. Tried turning it off and on multiple times and sstill not bright enough to see. I never once messed with the brightness setting that can be brought up by hitting the power button.

I bet you a Gary Dobyns donut you have your power switched hooked to the console panel.. Hook your unit directly to the cranking battery.. Your losing power somewhere.... Every boat I rig I rig it directly to the battery. All sorts of things can go wrong rigging at the console..

Shall I pm my address so I can get my donut. It has nothing to due with power. If you read the other Humminbird forums you will find I am not the only one who feels there may be a software glitch. I have a buss under the dash that has the size of wire that you would use to run batteries with that I installed myself. The same size wire runs to the front to the Humminbird. This was not an issue until the last update.

OffDuty, I'm not saying your wrong here but I moderate 3 Humminbird forums and this is the first I have heard of a update dimming a 1100 unit?? Can you try running the power directly to the battery just to eliminate that option? I have heard and seen many issues powering the unit from the dash causing dimming issues that is why I suggested what I did. Just trying to help ya..

If you like you can go to the sidesoft forum and redownload the previous software and see if it illuminates your screen properly?

If your battery is strong and your wired like you say you are I would call bird ASAP.
