I tossed lures into every pond and river I found that looked 'fishy' for a minimum of 10 minutes each time. But there was no sight of bait or small fish along the shores, and it had me wondering if any fish actually lived in these waters. I had seen some bass boats being towed north of Jo'berg a week earlier so I knew that there must be bass in S. Africa. I finally asked at...
One of my clients Cobus Rautenbach is from South Africa, and is here with his wife for a year on assignement. We've been out quite a few times and will be fishing the NBW So. Ca. region until he has to go back home....he wants to learn all of the West's technics while he is here and is doing awesome!.....they don't even dropshot over there, mostly Flukes and C. rigs....he's gonna spank them with the D-shot! Pretty neat to hear all about the bass fishing on the other side of the globe.
Gerry, one of the nice things over there is so many waters with bass that have not seen a lure, or not very often anyways- which makes it quite easy to get 6 or 7 fairy good size hogs (4 to 5 lbs each) in just a few minutes in one area. Plus, I just fished it and as my article mentioned, it's spring and the topwater bite is awesome. They only stopped mid-day and the rest of the time it was fish-on. I wish these San Diego lakes had half of the excitement I found over there- at least consistantly. Especially in that smallmouth strain. I don't think there are any in S. California, maybe DVL? What fighters pound for pound.
