All Around Flipping Stick

Post by Kev76 »

I want a flipping stick that can also work well for Frogging. I will be fishing in the Delta the majority of the time. I have been looking at the Dobyns 766 Flip. I have the Dobins 734 and am impressed with it. Any recomendations?

I have been using the Powell 765 for some time. both are matched with castais SF, both spooled with 30lb braid.

I use them for FROGS, JIGS (swimming, pitching, flipping), TEXAS RIG BRUSH HOGS, and MISSION FISH.

169.99 or did they go up?

these sticks are no joke.

I would sugest to go with the Dobyns 735C or 765 FLIP. It will have a little bit more tip than a 766FLIP which makes walkin and workin a frog alot easier.

for flipping u want a long handle for leverage. for frogging you want a short handle for the ability to walk frogs right. My advice: get two rods because you'll probably end up doing it anyways. But if you were to get one rod: Def a Powell 765.

Try the Kistler Magnesium 7'8" Heavy Flipping/Pitching rod. It's telescopic too for easy storage. Priced at 169.99

Or try the Kistler Aragon Flipping/Pitching rods. There is a 7'5" Heavy that comes in at 199.99. It is a one piece.

Fenwick's Elite Tech Froggin'Stik, ECF72H-XF, doubles nicely as a Pitchin'/Flipen stick for jigs and large plastics. I tend to use this rod more for jiggin' since the jig season is longer than the froggin' season. 7'2" Heavy with an Extra Fast tip.

Check this one out. My buddy uses this and we were just talking last night about how it would double as a good frog rod.

+1 with Robchik. Kistler Mg "All Day Flipp'n " rod is very nice and a great value. I too agree with having two different rods for these two different tech's. Yes, we ALL have waaaay too many rods already, but you know you will buy a true frog rod later... Get the Kistler Flipp'in rod and the Mg "Frog and Toad" special. Pair them up with the right high speed reel and line combo's, then you have two more weapons in your arsenal. Good luck!!

I have two of these rods that I flip with, throw frogs with, and use for throwin' certain swimbaits, too. It's extremely light, very durable with the recoiling Nickel-Titanium guides, and it's made in America...Can't get much better than that.

The Dobyns/Powell 766 walks the frog just fine however the tip is a little too fast for roll casting into the pockets or skipping docks. The 765 is probably your best bet for double duty. However if your looking for a flip'n stick and not a pitchin' stick your better off getting an 8'er to put yourself that much further away from the fish.

I have the Powell 766, 735, and 765, I prefer the 766 over all the others. The 735 and 765 are great rods but the 766 will absolutely rip lips in the thickest of stuff, flip light cover flawlessly and walk a frog well too. If you are looking for 1 rod to do it all the 766 is the one. If you have the money I would get all three like I did, but if had to choose one... 766. When I get the extra cash I will be buying another.
