Allison bass boats?

Post by brambo0311 »

I have been looking for a used or new boat for a while. Then I come across these things that claim the can go over 100mph. Anyone have one? They look really cool. I dont want to start an anarchy in here over everyones boat preference. But I want a rig that flat out gets with it, and isnt like everyone elses. One post I read already says his boat hits pad at 2.5 seconds and GPS at 102 with 2 guys and a tournament load. Sounds like BS. But I would like a straight answer from a owner before I spend that kind of cash.

While I do not won one I have been dreaming about an Allison for years. Go check out the Allison owners website http://www.allisonowners.com/ They have message boards and the guys are very helpful

If I had the money I would buy an Allison, not for the speed but for the fuel efficiency. An XB 2003 with a 150 Opti will run in the upper sixties (some worked 150HPs are getting over80MPH) and still gut unbelievable fuel millage. These boats are very light and have a unique hull design that gets every little bit of HP out of the motor.

You would hit 85 - 90MPH no problem with two people.
.... But as soon as your lake gets windy & rough water arrives you will actually be going slower than everyone else since the Allison doesn't have much of a V hull.
They are built for speed... I believe the record with an outboard was set with an Allison bass boat.
For more info about boats visit www.bassboatcentral.com
You will find a forum for Allison Boats.....

Actually the guys who own them claim, that they are better in rough water than almost any boat. Again go talk to the guys at the allisonowers page or the Allison forum at bassboatcentral.com There a couple of Ally owners that are Lake Champlain fisherman and got into Allisons because of there rough water ride

From what I read they say they handle rough water great. The hull is good v all the way back. It looks like only about a 1/4 of an inch is in the water when its going. I think it did take the outboard record at a 115mph. I found one new for 58 grand, but I am gunna check out everything before I drive to Dallas. The cockpit looks kinda wierd though. Looks like you have to jump over the seats and push your co-angler overboard to get up front.

I checked one out a show a few years back... from what a remember (I haven't checked there site) the seating arrangement is adjustable form centered side by side or centered in-line... that was cool... The trim and finish wasn't as clean as most other brands, but that may have changed too.... and yes they're fast,,really fast... every now and then one passes me on the delta like I'm sitting still.

way less, and still do 70-75, in the rough stuff.

You forgot to mention the porta-potty in the middle seat. Technically, it's a livewell for mudsharks...

If you wanna go fast in rough water, get one of them ocean racing boats, twin 300's on the back!! You'd have no probs with the delta
breeze" kickin up them little waves

What about Bullet Boats, don't they run those with Merc 300 racing outboards?

Going fast is cool, but at 100mph, water's Hard too!

Hope you don't end up a corpse

Probably the same thing that makes folks want to break the 200 mph mark on motorsickles...

Actually I was thinking of the fact that they will still run in the 80mph with a 150 hp. Cheaper motor less gas. I like the way they are laid out. And the head lights in the hull I would use allot. I just want to know if everything falls apart after a couple of years. I did find a site a guy claims he set the new record at 122MPH. Plus the boat is just over a 1000#. Would be easier to tow. I dont know though, I need to find out a little more info on them before I spend that kind of cash.

Yeah going that fast might not be safe and sane, but it makes ya feel really cool!! 8)

Try 135+ on a morotcycle, now that's fast!!

I notice you’re in San Fran. Maybe that’s why you have never hit 100+ MPH, to much traffic? I mean the first time I did 100MPH was in an S-10 when I was 17 and I don’t think I was the only stupid kid out there. It’s kind of like doing the horizontal dance you don’t know what you’re missing till you've done it! :D

Being in SF is no excuse. I remember doing jumps on the hills (just like the car chases in The Streets of San Francisco...a Quinn-Martin Production) in a friend's rented Cadillac once. Yea, it was scary and dumb, yet lots of fun! Ah, youth.

brambo0311,

I've owned my Allison for about 3 years. It is a XB-2003 w/200xs and will run 88-90 gps solo and 81 - 84 gps loaded to fish. Allison's are some the fastest best handling boats on the market. In fact, I won the Inland Marine Bassboat Shootout this year. I placed first in both the radar run and handling course.

I previously owned a Champion and my Allison handles the rough water better than my 20ft Champion. Of course, ones opinion on rough water ride is subjective...

Now to your 100 mph question, I believe your referring to the XB-21. I've only heard of two XB-21s doing over 100 and both were with a 300x or 300xs. The XB-21 will run 92-93 gps with a 250xs, 85 - 87 gps with a 225xs, and 81 - 83 gps with a 200xs. These are all solo speeds so subtract 2 - 5 gps for a loaded boat to fish.

Hope this helps...

They are fast in the water, ride really well, but do wave)for a better word) slightly side to side (at speed) due to the deep v hull and all. The seating is in line, in that the driver is in front and the non-boater is sitting right behind him. Feels funny at first, but you get used to it. All and all they are a very nice boat. Bill K :) And yes they fly with less horsepower.
Fun fishing the country, each and every week.

My Allison flys straight as an arrow once I learned to drive it. The slight side to side is chinewalk and after speeds of 58 - 60 mph the Allison needs to be driven to counter act the chine walking. There is a steep learning curve to learn to drive an Ally but it is very rewarding once you have mastered it.

The seating in most Allisons can be configured to ones liking side by side, inline, etc...Inline seating is the fastest :D

It sounds like the boat fits your criteria. As far as speed goes, speedos are notorious for being optimistic. (Not just boat owners.) The 100 mph claim, just hop in with a portable GPS.

They do go real fast though!

Have fun shopping! :D

Actually there is one west coast Allison dealer on the delta. It is Henry Abaddi's "Performance Marine Specialties" on Lauritzen Lane in Oakley. He has/had a Allison XB-21 with 200xs in stock. It is one sweet boat and sure alot closer than Texas which is were I got my boat.

For all the reasons you are mentioning are the same ideas i have and still wonder if a allison is for me...But go ride in one! i have not ride in one but i have rode in a skeeter 185, a mid 90's model, a stratos, a late 80's model, a ranger 185 and 488. if i were to choose one of the following i would choose that 488. rides good and i drove it too.

but for 48,000 you can get that allison and a merc 175 fully loaded, i hope that boat does handle! you know how they say you get what you pay for!! well i hope you will at that price....if i had 48,000 to spend i would make that purchase to.

Allison's aren't for everybody!
I've had 3 Champion's a 18'4", the first year 19' and the 19' I still have. The Champion's are excellent in rough water and are fast, at least mine were.
The Allison, hands down is faster and better in rough water even when completely unloaded. I have a 1994 XB2003 with 200 EFI JohnRude.
You do have to drive the boat and it does take time to learn. They will chine walk and be hard to drive if not set up correctly. If not driven or set up correctly you will know the meaning of "Washing the decals." You have to realize, at higher speeds you are balancing on a 10 5/8' pad.
They are a very well thought out boat and very efficient (read great gas mileage). When I buy a another new boat it will be an Allison. The XB 21.
I don't know enough, to leave well enough alone.

I myself don't like the basscat. the dash and layout arn't my cup of tea, so to speak. I'm not bashing that boat but I really don't find it appealing to me. I know that there are alot of people who would disagree , but like they say, different stroks for different folks.

Just my to cents.

Funny you should mention these....

Post by Fish Chris »

First off, I don't want, or need a bass boat that will go 50 mph, let alone 100 !

However, I saw an Allison speed boat last week at the Suisun boat ramp, and watched it make a few test runs ! And this was one bad *** boat ! This particular model had a small seating cockpit, which would barely hold two passengers, and little, to no fishing tackle.

But the guy had had it clocked at 104 mph ! This particular day he hit 102. Crazy thing was, he had it rigged for nitrous oxide, as well, but he said he didn't think it would give it much more than a few mph on the top end.... It just got to the top end, even quicker. Either way, he wasn't really sure, because he was afraid to just lay on the nitrous constantly, for fear of blowing up the motor.

Anyway, when I told him I was heavily into bass fishing, he mentioned the Allison Bass boat, with the same motor as his, to which I replied, "Nope. No thanks. I'd rather have my little 14 ft aluminum for fishing, and 'your boat' to go real fast, look cool, and have fun. Don't want anything "in between".

Anyway, simply an amazing piece of machinery.

Thanks for the info guys. I will see if I can find one in oakley. I have to add 4' on to my garage to fit a 21' boat with the motor. So I guess thats my prodject for next week. I want a new boat by spring. I have been fishing for the last 10 years out of a 15' Gregor that I decked and made for bass fishing, and glueing my Sinkos and roboworms back together. But a saved allot of money that way, and its time to treat myself to my first new boat. Its kind of a toss up now between a Triton, Basscat, and a Allison. All of the new boats look so good its hard to make a choice.

Just like buying new a car, I would go test drive or ride in as many boats on your list as you can. You will find the one that suits your needs based on how you prioritize your requirements for a bassboat (speed, layout, rough water handling, deck space, etc...in no particular order)

Good Luck!

Allison rates their hulls for low horsepower motors for liability sake. If you plan to fish tournaments such as FLW this can lead to the boat not being legal for competition as most people put motors on that are over the hull rating plate (Manufacturer recomendation).

If you want speed first and fishing second Allison is the boat. Or if you want a crapper. :)

The XB-21 (http://www.allisonboats.com/bass_boats/ ... o_2005.php) is a fishing first and speed second as compared to there other boats.
It is rated for a max of 225 hp and will still do 85 - 87 gps.

Now the XB-2002 is speed first and fishing second boat followed by the XB-2003.
