Central Valley Kayak Fishing held its last event for the year at Lake Isabella. Only 8 anglers showed up for this event and four limits hit the scales. Angel Sanchez smashed a victory with a few different techniques that included 10XD crankbait, flutter spoon, A-rig, and a shaky head to catch his fish.

“I found a ditch that had rip rap lined along the drop off during practice.” described Sanchez, “I used the 10XD to catch a small limit of 12 to 13” fish.”

“The A-rig caught a few fish in the ditch but they were small too.” reported Sanchez, “I decided to move across the lake and try this other area where I had found a school of fish.”

“I noticed the water had dropped 5 feet in two weeks so I headed towards the boat ramp.” revealed Sanchez, “There I used a shaky head to catch my better fish.”

“I was way in the back of a creek that had off shore rock along the creek channel.” expressed Sanchez, “The key was to shake the worm down the break of the channel.”

“I was using a stick style worm made by my buddy Bass Smacking Lure.” detailed Sanchez, “The shaky head accounted for my bigger limit.”

“I caught the big fish of the tournament in the last 10 minutes of the tournament.” said Sanchez, “I casted to a big boulder and let my Bass Smacking Lure drop next to the rock and the bass ate it and ran off. This one fish not only gave me the big fish of the tournament but also helped me win the event.”

Sanchez thanked his buddy Bass Smacking Lure for the amazing worms that helped me win the event and Donovan Van Der Paardt for hosting this great event.

John Lopez was runner up for this event with a total of 73.50”. Lopez found some fish on road beds that had rip rap lined the drop. He used darter head paired with a Robo Morning Dawn worm.

“My first stop was the road bed that had rip rap along the drop.” reported Lopez, “I was unable to get a bite so I moved to a channel break that had rock too.”

“After a while, I decided to move back to where I started and was able to catch fish on the darter head Robo worm. I culled several fish on that one spot.”

“It was one of those days that I’ll never forget.” described Lopez, “I did catch a 17” fish that helped me move up to second place in the last few minutes of the day.”

“I moved around and then moved back to where I was catching fish and culled another ½" that helped my total limit.”

Lopez thanked family and friends for all their support and Donovan Van Der Paardt for all his hard work making this circuit one of the best to fish.

Pia Xiong finished in third place with 71.75”. Xiong used 3.3 Keitech to get his limit. He found an area that held a big school of fish on top of an island.” divulged Xiong, “I found a 2-foot drop on the island.”

“I caught a fish on the drop shot paired with a 4” worm shad colored; it was my big fish for the day 16.75” revealed Xiong, “I saw fish busting bait on top of the island and on my electronics, I could see fish working bait in the ditch along the island.”
