Anyway I arrive around 9:30 and plan on leaving my boat cover at the cabin. (Check in is at 3 or 4 PM. The Ranger is cleaning cabin #2 so I inquire as to whether I could dump my stuff off in my cabin and go fishing. He gives me the OK. Wow, I'm thinking that's pretty cool its gonna be a good tournament. Luck is running my way. 2 1/2 hrs later I'm headed to the water. Good thing to, because by then the bite was so wonderful that other boats were leaving making parking on the ramp easy. Onto the water, temp in the 50s. Today is graph day, so off we go to main lake points and using active target moving to the backs of the incoming streams. They were easy to find on an app called Deep Dive. I've been using it a lot lately. I'm finding fish and bait from 5" -25". Good sign. Make a few casts here and there but no action.
Get back to the cabin around 5 wrap things up for the night. Then the first sign things were going to turn for the worse. The "Hot Spot" on the phone quit working. Crap. No TV, no you tube, no Western Bass......YIKES am I addicted? So its Pizza and off to bed.
Thursday beckons cold but clear. Finishing breakfast, and uncovering the boat, I hear voices outside. (normally they're in my head
After another long day, I get back to the cabin around 5 and now have new neighbors from the RB Bass team. (I should mention again here that humidity was very high in the morning and with no picnic table to let my cover dry on I left my cover spread out on their table and my i aluminum chair. Well these two guys neatly folded my cover, and moved my picnic table back to my site leaving the cover on top. I went over to apologize to them and we started chatting. Next thing I knew Greg invites me to a NY steak dinner with beans and rolls. All I need is a drink. So I say to myself Hmm, Pizza?, New York steak?, pizza?, don't be a dumb az, New York steak it is. Greg and Tom tell me they're fishing the BBT at Pedro on Sat. After a big steak that I couldn't finish I took the left over beans and meat for meal #2 at the cabin. A BIG THANK YOU to the RB Bass team. What a difference from the Fresno Bass Club .....(I won't say it.
Friday I go up Piney Creek. Beautiful bassy looking water, but a long long long 5 mph zone. I see a couple of guys go on plane after they clear the houseboats and 1 guy in a Triton doesn't even slow down in the houseboat 5. No wonder folks are upset with tournament fishing. Why can't folks just follow the rules?
Tournament day, John arrives and we load his boat. At this point in time its Glide Bait, no A rig, Ds, jig, and minnor and of course jerkbait.
A surprise awaits us at check in as there is no fee required, because we placed at the last tournament. our award covered the entry. Pretty cool. Its now our chance to get out in front of entries. The decision was made to start in the same spot. Well even though the water temp was a few degrees off from our last tournament, it took a lot longer to catch our first keeper. John hooked up with a keeper spot using some new color roboworm. It was funny because I saw Bassmaster's "The Cast" about Aaron being colorblind too and asking others about what color the worm was he was using, and then giving rise to his line of colors. Well the new ones John had were like I can't remember the names, but were mixtures of some of Aarons colors. Either way they were catching fish. I kept looking for the Big bite and John the keepers. We had our limit by 8:30, and only culled a couple of times. At weigh in we tallied 5 for 5.86 and 31st place.
Next up Don Pedro, but I'm flying solo as John will be a Won Bass Shasta'
Hope I do well.
