Small boat, fairly stable, fast as hell with a 175.

I have a 96 sabre w/ Merc XR6 150 and it screams. I can only begin to imagine what a 175 would do. The Sabre fishes big and handles the rough stuff good also. Down side on the older models is storage. The new models have added rear compartments. Bottom line is you can't go wrong with a CAT.

so i did some more research on this make and model. i came across a owner with a 135 and he stated, HE EVEN DID 60MPH..WOW...how is the ride on this boat?
a 175hp sounds really good now. how much does this rig weig with motor and gear? from the specs, i think my sonoma v6 will have no problems.
......another thing..most SABRE hitting the high 60's speed mark are running mercury xr6 150's..are these better than a optimax or e-tec...i know i would never say "NO" to speed but i also do not want to blow anything......

sorry dave...i can not sell the Monark! i don't think i'll get what it is worth to me! My mom left it for her sons during and after the divorce....it's a family boat.

Nice boat!

The boat is 18' and handles rough water well! As everyone states it is fast. You have to drive this boat, you can't be running with your hands off the wheel.

What year are you looking at purchasing? Does it have hydralic steering?

When you compare it to other makes of the same size, that Sabre is much, much lighter. Most 18 footers out there weigh 200-400lbs more than the Sabre. I'm sure w/ a 150 it would do mid to upper 60's no problem. My friend had a 2002 Pantera (19') w/ a 200 opti and it was extremely fast, I want to say mid-upper 70's but I cant remember exactly. The boat rode great and felt quality. I didnt like Basscat much, but now that I keep looking at em they are becoming more attractive.

This is a great read on how the BCB lines up with the new engines.

I have a 06 Sabre with a 150 opti.....65 mph max. Fast boat but who really cares. Now I love this little 18' fter. but if I had to do it all over again and finally realizing just how much I do actually fish I'd stay with the Cat but go with a p4. More deck space and storage. A few mph's aren't gonna win you any tourneys but with the wider deck you'll be more comfortable and after 10 hours a few days in a row and thats what really matters. Also dont skimp on the electronics (sideimaging Hummingbird) including a good satelite radio from Sirus. Just call Bill at Mossdale boats he does a great job on setting you up I promise. I did a lot of shopping so....And if that doesn't convience you he'll take you for a spin in one...or better yet I will in mine. Good Luck.

2004 Sabre 150 opti 23 & 25 Temptest Plus no jackplate 61-63 loaded 63 to 65 with light load. Would like to drive one with A 175 and A jack plate to see the differnce. Very stable boat at 63 but if you want A few extra MPH you will have to learn how to drive or set it up properly.
My freinds and family have Rangers Z20,195,363 etc... and A few Skeeters and they all are impressed with the overall performance of this 18'boat. Storage ,quality, speed, fishabilaty. I go by Ranger 185s with 175 Optis on them all of the time. I think the P4 is probably the best all around boat you can get if you fish docks and tight areas but get the boat that best fits your fishing style. V6 Tacoma will pull the Sabre but stopping will be the issue.

Good luck in your chioce you can't go wrong with A BassCat.
