Any pre-tournament predictions for the FLW NG Series?

Post by Ricky-S »

Anybody want to make any predictions on weights or anglers to watch out for?

I am saying 10-12 pounds to get a check and I don't think that a local will win this tournament.

Half the field will blank at least one of the three days. I think that it will take 17 pounds for three days to make the top 10.

On the non-boater side I think that one fish a day will earn someone a huge check.

This will be the toughest tournament that many of us have ever fished.

Let's get ready to rumble!!!!!!!!!!!!

I predict lots of complaining about the tough bite and why in the heck did we drive XXX miles to fish that pit again.

I predict there will be a boat stuck on a sand bar. Gawd, I hope it is not me.

I predict there will be 10 boats fishing under the bridge.

I predict the wind will blow.

I predict someone will win and we will not all blank.

I predict every tournament after this one will be better.

10-12 lbs. to cash a check sounds right...I did the math from last year's Stren; for three days of fishing, 10th place was 8 fish for 20-03...game on...

Not sure about that Ricky...I have several friends who have spent the last month there and two of them are on very good fish..although they are only getting 6-7 good bites a day, they have been able to do it several days in a row...I think 16lbs will lead day one and they will follow it up with 10-12lbs each following day..they are not locals, but two are from Phoenix and two from northern cal and one from Colorado...they all said that more than half the field will blank at least one day if not two days....and wouldn't be surprised if 30% blanked all three days...the guy on the best fish blanked four days in a row until he found his pattern....they all said if the wind blows 30plus it will be brutal....

Sorry for the edit...

.I should have added that everyone can win the prefish and putting food on the table at dinner time is always another story...most of them added that any co-angler who catches five fish in four days will proably win hands down...thats one fish a day plus a kicker one pounder..

good luck ricky-s

if someone catches 16lbs. on day one they will coast into the top 10, hell, they won't have to leave the marina if they didn't want to. 16lbs on the first day and one fish per day after that will get you in the top ten for this one. just my $.02.

Your right on, and I'm glad I won't be there to spent $3500 bucks to catch two fish and complain about it ALL year again!

Get this pit off the schedule, PLEASE!

I am happy with the full fields (or close), so that they will run it next year as well. I am going to try and fish at last one this and hopefully all four next.

Good luck down there guys!

Well JT

It is VERY easy to be on fish when there aren't nearly 400 anglers out on the water. It will be interesting to see how your friends do when the pressure really hits the lake under tournament conditions.

A month ago the water temp was still in the 50s and the fish were much more active. Now, the water is in the mid 40s and there are a lot more lines in the water.

Anyone who gets 5 or more bites a day will have a chance to win the event. Good luck to them. What do their boats look like so that I can follow them around-JK

Hey Ricky, I'm saying 14 to 17 lbs. to make the top 10 cut. I'm cracking up at how I can be SO excited to drive 8 hours to a lake to fish for 8 days for a few bites. But I am fired up! Actually our odds to win this one are a lot higher than a tournament with a wide-open bite. :D C'mon Friday!!!!

I know past results have shown that locals have not done well, but I would put Mike Goodwin up there for the win on this one....Mike has those "everytime" spots that no one else has....it may or will come down to one bite.....sometimes those "everytime" spots kill you, but when you have the confidence, and the patience..... that equals "Goodwin".....good luck to you all, I wish I could afford this deal....hopefully next year if they come back...Ricky, I know you have mentioned your history on Havasu before, but it is like the Colts and the Patriots.....you are due!!! I think all the predictions on weights is right on.....it will be tough, and someone will come in with a good bag that can ride them to the top 10......have fun all!!!!

JT,

I hope your friends get those nice ones they caught. I like your friends have been there for the last month prefishing and was finally able to get something positive going after several days on the water prior.

But one thing I know better and have had my butt handed to me is to rely soley on my prefish at that lake. Like alot of people say "here today, gone tomorrow"

In all the days I've spent there it almost seemed as if I had the whole lake to myself. Which is not bad but you'd have to be naive to think that come game day that your gonna have all the points and man made habitat to yourself.

Guaranteed everything your friends are looking at on the maps is going to get bombed on like "Hiroshima" everyday starting on the 27th straight through the Feb. 3rd. And the river thats a whole 'nother bombing on its own.

I wish them luck though. Hopefully they survive the onslaught of a 180 pros and co's and come out with a check. I know I'm gonna have my flak jacket on and giving it a 110% everyday.

Hey Ricky!

I have to say driving to the office this morning I was getting fired up! When you can send butterflies through your stomach 4 days prior to a tourney you know something big is going to happen!

Here are some predictions for ya!

Ricky S makes the top 10 cut! I beleive Ricky is way over do.....He had a great day up at shasta and I beleive that is all you need to make the cut at Havasu.

Dewayne will throw jigs!

J.T.'s friends are going to stuff him in a bag!

Cole continues to be afraid of his own shadow!

Mick.......Well lets just say he will save Lake Havasu and its economy, when he monta vei"s the muscle farm! ( Mick unknowingly spills a bottle of this product into his livewell watches his limit of fish grow by 300% and in doing so releases this product into the river system enlarging all the gagga musckles by 300% and enabling the dfg to dive and locate all such species and thus eliminate there fears!) Hmmmmm. Oh yeah! and by doing so wins the tourney and finds a photo of himself on the cover of the Wheaties box ......Holding a 10 pound smallie and a 5 pound muscle!   ( keep it clean guys!)

42lbs wins ... 24lbs makes the cut ...12 lbs a check...

Ricky-s...

just look for that boat with the "Mona Vie" on the side...My friends said thats how they found their bite

Just don't hit the sandbar like my buddy did...he said it took two boats to get him off of it...

I'll bet that water gets beat to a froth in the official prefish...

Good Luck to all you guys....sometimes the worst prefish is the best, because you don't have any preconceived ideas to screw up your mind...

I'll bet my buddy does stuff me in a bag just for saying anything and jinking him....

Me and that sand bar have already met one another. The key is not to slow down. There will be several boats that make friends with the sand bars in the river.

Toughest bite most folks will see this year...

10 lds gets a check pro side.
6 lds gets a check on the Am side.
20 lds should be the cut mark for your pros.

32 and change to win.
20 lds for the am win over the 3 days we fish.

Pro Picks... no particular order.

Post by gt5bass »

Thanh Le beats Mike Goodwin by two ounces followed by Jimmy Reese a pound eight out.

Ricky S. shakes the Havasu monkey off his back with a strong 5th place showing.

Gary Key gets his year off on the right foot with a top ten finish as well.

Dobyns manages to avoid another affair with the porclain goddess but misses the cut by 13 ounces.

Keep your eyes open for a young gun fishing the pro side named Ron Hobbs Jr. Even though he has never fished Havasu before now, he knows how to fill a livewell; especially if there is a dropshot bite.

Marty,

I feel your pain and that's how I felt last year with the Havasu tournament. Then lo and behold my buddy John is leading the tournament and I'm stuck in front of a computer wishing that I had fished the event. Last day of the event I was getting hour by hour updates from a few buddies who were down there on our Nextel. Needless to say very little work was done that week as my mind was elsewhere.

Not this year... no matter how bad the fishing conditions may be it's still 1,000 x better than sitting at work trying to concentrate on anything but fishing! :)

Jim,

No, I wish I was fishing it but don't get enough vacation from work to fish the whole series. I have entered the Columbia one, though.

Don, it is nice to see you post on here! You are now officially a "nutcase". For those who don't know Don Hogue, he has won a boat or two on the Columbia River before!

Hey Guys/Gals whatever, To all bitch'in about coming over here to Havasu during the winter, shake your knoggin and make sure you don't hear anything. You should be nervous as a ho in church at this time, just shaken with excitement. Being a tough bite really gives more people a real chance to win than normal or do really well overall. If its wide open you usually need that kicker or two or three or you probably miss a check. I love the tough ones because the guys that cry about how bad it is, is usually done before day one is even started. Havasu is really a great lake, in 2004 when I won the 1st Everstart here , myself and my co's had over 82lbs in my boat. So keep your heads into the game the whole event and something positive just might happen for you. I have not slept 3 hours a nite for a week. 11lbs to win $10,000...22lbs top 10...35lbs to win $100,000PLUS...Dam i'm shak'in again....Lets get this party started....Mike G

that's pretty impressive mike,

Ahh... the good ole days. seems like only the year before last that I was dodging pesky speed skiers.

Top Picks...

Clifford Pirch, Tim Klinger, Justin Kerr, Bill Mcaninch, I will put Justin twice and the above mentioned Mr. Goodwin

of course I want to win too

What color is your boat???

Just kidding.

Even though we know we are in for a tough tournament we are all excited as you can tell. To be honest though the drive back North is shorter. Maybe this is the year I find that pattern or spot that will kick out the right fish. We are all thinking that. If it doesn't happen, well the next tournament is on the Delta in March. :)
