Re: Any stripers in the American River yet?
i havent try fishing the american river yet but i went around downtown sac and got 2 good size striper. i went on the last 2 mondays cause its my only day off and 1 31in on each day. they both probally weight about 10-14lbs i say...the first fish i caught it on a rapala glidin rap 12 and the second fish i was using the lunker punker...it was awesome to see the punker get hit..it was a big explosion!!! the fish hit it off 3-5 feet of water...i also just got back from there again today and also had a hit. i threw my punker out there and somehow the lines got tangle around the eyes of my rod. while i was trying to take it off, a big striper expolded on my punker. i tried to set the hook but my line had too much slack and the hook didnt set..the fish came back again, u can see the him coming back on the surface water and smashed the punker again!!!i can see him took the punker down the water so i tried setting the hook but again hook didnt set because of the slack line and still tangle to the rod eye..so after like 5 seconds of the punker underwater, the fish spits the punker back out of its mouth and there goes my punker floating...i was really upset cause i couldnt untie my line...but i had a blast just seeing the punker get smashed!!!nuocmam1222 wrote:has anyone caught any stripers on the American River yet in the Sacramento Area?

imma assume you're bank fishing too.. where are you fishing downtown sac? between the capitol bridge and the green i-5 bridge? or specific push banks? i just came back from the delta this morning near middle river.. got 4, all top water swimbait and pencil popper.. 2 with my wood lunker punker, 30in 10lb, 27in 7.5lb and 2 more with my big stik, 26in 6.5lb and 20in 3lb.. haha i even caught a ding the same size as my punker! caught them all between 8-10am on outgoing tide.. i did get about a few more blow ups but none of them commited.. try reeling faster next time to reel up the slack, make sure the rod loads a little before setting the hook and don't lock down your drag, let the drag fight the fish for you or you're going to rip the lure out of it's mouth.. but yeah, top water is a blast!!
