Anyone know of a rescent Triton Sinking?
Anyone know of a rescent Triton Sinking?
Heard one sank at Mead during the Stren and is still in the water? Anyone know about this?
Re: Anyone know of a rescent Triton Sinking?
I heard about it... but, didn't want to say anything bad about a boat company. SH*#%& Happens and I am sure it was just an anomalie.
Someone who was there might be able to give you some more insight. I do know that the angler finished up the event fishing from a Legend!!!

With all the talk of "My boat is better than yours!".............remember one thing.
"THE BOAT DON'T MAKE THE MAN. THE MAN MAKES THE BOAT!"
Prime example put Dobyns and Reese in an aluminum Tracker and they'd still kick all of our butts.

Yes, Last time I saw it, it was around middle point in 8 feet of water. It was pretty bad out there. The worst I've seenon mead.

No Tom, this scary pic was taken somewhere on one of the Great Lakes. Scary stuff huh?
Re: Anyone know of a rescent Triton Sinking?
Cool.. I actually found the picture on BoatNerds.com after my post..
Sinking on Mead is one thing.. imagine sinking half way across Lake Erie... Better be a good swimmer!

The boat in the pic isn't a Triton

Yes they were both OK. When I talked to him in the weigh in line on Friday. He was headed out there to see what they can do. It sank on Thursday. He wasn't upset so I'm guessing insurance was up to date.

well its good to know he and his partner were ok and that he didn't seem upset, that would probably mean what you said as his insurance was up to date. lol...
What a way to get a new boat... I wonder how much of the items on the boat was salvaged, fishing tackle, graphs, trolling motor and so forth.

That is not a Champion. I think it is either a Aluminum Triton or an Express Alum. Rick G.

Re: Anyone know of a rescent Triton Sinking?
any word on how the toon at mead sank?
Re: Anyone know of a rescent Triton Sinking?
hollywood,
the boat that sank was my buddies boat. He was coming home from overton and his motor broke off, a merc optimax, broken bracket. The only reason it sank was because he left it for a few hours and it got pounded. Not the boats fault. Would have happened to anyboat left in those conditions. And yes his insurance was up to date. Just glad mylittle buddy and his co are ok.

Being safe is all that matters and the insurance of course, i figured it coulnd't have been the boats fault. We had a 250 pro xs break a bracket over the weekend and go in the drink, wasn't a pretty sight. Your right about it happening to any boat in those conditions
Re: Anyone know of a rescent Triton Sinking?
there was another boat that "almost sank" up at Overton on Friday....Friday wasn't as bad as Thursday, but certain pockets of certain arms (ie. Overton, Temple, etc) can become their own lake and have their own conditions.....Friday was weird....the big basin (Virgin) was very easy to negotiate, but up at Temple it was 6-8 footers....thank God that is a short stretch (I'm not going to get into a boat brand thing here, but mine did very well)....it is always the driver though.....but sometimes you can't help the rogue wave that gets you......the "other" boat that almost sank was up by Overton (my day two partner told me the story)...they launched the boat on a wave and it came down into a 6-8 footer...washed all of the nonboaters stuff in the water and he went out the back....he grabbed the motor to hang on (which I thought was a dumb idea....he is lucky the engine stalled and didn't chop up his legs....anyway...he lost everything......the boat was even with the water line and it took a few hours to have it all bilged out.....they continued to fish and made it back.....unreal!!!!! I know why most of you don't like to come to Mead, I really don't blame you.....but it is my home and it just takes alot of practice (to drive and fish).....I got my "you know what" handed to me in the fishing part, but I was able to use the boating practice to my advantage....I am glad everyone is ok.....overall, I think it was an expensive tourney for some

Re: Anyone know of a rescent Triton Sinking?
Yeah, I did that with my Ranger once. Funny thing it still floated without any problems and took almost an hour straight for the bilge pump to empty the boat while holding onto a piling outside Orwood after the incident. I had Chad from Fisherman's Warehouse with me out on the Delta and we took a cruiser wake wrong while trying to pass from behind. Lost 5 rods and reels that were tied down on the front deck and Chad bruised his ribs pretty bad.
This was after my prop was stolen at Clear Lake and I put the wrong replacement prop on (aluminum). I won't make that mistake again.

Yep!
I saw her.....She was sitting against the bank Saturday on the protected side of the point next to middle point, actually I am not sure what you guys call middle pt. but it was in the area that starts the Overton arm. No motor, and the rim of the boat sits about a half inch out of the water......Like you guys said, luckily justin and his co are ok........personally I travelled to the overton everyday, and I think timing was everything!...I left early thursday and friday 11:00 ish with a few 3 footers, not bad concidering the weather, but I heard it was pretty bad in the afternoon both days especially thursday!!!! That lake is huuuuge! When the waves are bigger than 3 ft. you need to know what your doing, most importantly just take your time and tacting is a great way to ride them out. Of course I tried that once on Clearlake and a Ferry full of spectators watched me fill my boat!
That was during the "mullet Days"
I remember last year in the u.s. open .I was fishing out of a Ranger Z20............Well, I also had my z-21 sittin in the driveway at home!
That will never happen again!

I'll never forget the year in the early 90's on that lake during the U.S Open Those had to be ten footers!!!
all I remember is going down into the swell and not seeing land!Anybody remember that! Oh, and by the way, the best is still to come, hopefully september will treat us well on the Columbia River, but this lake can get HUGE!
Keepin it safe, Jimmy
