Whatever the set-up, the best you can hope for with a 185 and a 150 is around 66-68 MPH.

I had a 1978 185 V with a Evinrude 150 of the same year. I got 60 out of it with 1 battery, 1/2 tank of gas and no gear. I re worked all the decks with king starlite xl for more storage, a better rod locker and added 3 batteries and it would only do about 40. I caught a lot of fish on that boat and sold it a couple months ago.

Are you running fully trimmed out? What RPMs are you running WOT? You should be able to get high 50s with the 150 Merc stock.

I've seen 63 GPS with a 185vs and 175 yamaha stock. It runs about 60 with a full load. With a jack plate and 25p prop, it should go a little faster, but not much.

Bass Boat Central is a good resource. There are a bunch on that site with the same setup.

Ive checked BBC and have heard anything from 58-64mph. But i can only get 51mph pinned. Oh well taking it to get my 100 hour serv. So maybe we can get it fixed.

Thanks for the input guys.

I have a 2001 RS83VS with a carborated Merc 150.

Motor: merc
Jackplate: none
Prop: 24p 4-blade
Setting to Pad: Not a clue
Top GPS Speed: 58
Average GPS Speed: ?
RPMs: 5300 TO 5400 maxxed out with trim up so the tail is just above the cowling when I look back.

This is fully loaded but with just me alone (6'6" - 300lbs). With a partner the best I get is about 53mph - GPS

I feel like it should be faster but for an 18' 10" boat I feel like it does pretty good.

Justin D walks away pretty good in his Kitty with a 150 Optimax that's a cople years newer but his boat is a little shorter (and possibly lighter) also.

Sounds like your boat should be a little faster but I think mine is a little slow coming out of the hole. Prop pitch could give you a little more top end but who knows.

Good luck. I would really like to hear what you learn about trying to make it faster.
