I like trying out new products that come out especially if they are a product that has been improved upon; a improved mouse trap so to say!
I got my hands on a few of these Nu Tech Jigs that they say are almost impossible to snag and always hook the fish in the top of the mouth, I took them out on the water and this is what I found!
You can throw these things is some pretty knarly stuff; brush/laydowns/tully's and they seem to come through more then well, they come out almost every time and if they do hang you just move up over the top of them and they come out!
I went out and fished Skinner and I had three jig rods set up with 1/2 oz baits, one brown/purple, the 2nd black/brown, black/blue and all three with a Yamomoto twin tail trailer in watermelon red.
First cast with the brown/purple was out on a point that dropped off from 2' out 17', medium retrieve and the third or fourth lift I lose feel of the jig so I reeled and set; 3lbs+, OK this was cool but lets keep going.
I make two or three more cast to the same general area and this time I let it sit for about thirty seconds; thump: set, 2.5lb.
Ok, I am now going hum, Im liking this more and more! I put that rod down and grab the black/brown jig rigged on identical rod with 15lb Seguar floro just like the other two rods.
I moved down to next long point and make a 60 foot cast across the point; backlash! I pick it out and start the retrieve of line, it comes taunt and as I reel I realize that my bait is about twenty feet to the left headed for deep water, I set and its on! 6 to 6.5 and a beautiful fish it was.
Proceeded to catch six total, I did pitch the tully's with no takers and I decided to move back out to the points and enjoy the bite. But I will be back to punch the tully's with these jigs.
I never threw the black/blue because I thought it was just too bright and clear of a day with five foot water visibility but I will be back out with these jigs in a few days, after thought that I should have used the Black/Blue to pitch the tully's.
I ordered six more jigs from the Nu Tech web site; one more of each color I already have and two new colors! These may very well be all I ever need because each time they sort of got stuck they came out when I move vertically over them and gave it a shake.
I am impressed to say the least, now I will take them up to the delta in a couple of weeks and give them a go in the rip/rap.
Pretty good product, they do what they say they do!
