Anyone use braid full time without a leader?

Post by jazzwannabe »

Wondering if any of you do this, no matter the technique, cover or water clarity. For example, open water, finesse, cranking? Does the visibility of braid affect your confidence or success?

braid sucks on rocks. it breaks so fast on the edge of a rock.
thus the reason I use mono leaders
just shut up and fish

I use that black water hollow core braid if i use a leader no knots. But I only use braid when I have to. Frogs, and punching. I DS and spoon with braid and a flouro leader so I can feel the tick at 50' deep. But I just don't like the way braid feels in most cases, it's all rough going through the guides.

I want to explore using a flouro leader, but something about having two extra knots in the mix makes me hesitate.

My cousins and I use braid without a leader. We lose a lure now and then. Like you, didn't want to hassle with the extra knot. We check our lines often and retie when necessary.

What brand and size are you using? Have you used it on spinning reels, like in a drop-shot situation where you'd use 6 lb. flouro or mono?

We use Power Pro moss green in either 50 lb or 65 lb (mainly topwater stuff - buzz baits, frogs, punkers, etc.). On my dropshot spinning rod, I use Power Pro moss green 20 lb. I don't know what my cousins use on their dropshot setups.

(fixed my spelling error - plunker....)
