Bass Boat Stolen in Discovery Bay

Post by garyd »

My Buddy just called me, when he went to meet his father this morning in Discovery Bay to go fishing they walked out to an empty drive way.` It was a 2010 Ranger 198vx and they must have just broke the coupling lock, pinnned the swing away tounge and drove it away. I feel terrible and I know for a fact he had about 15000 dollars of rods, reels and gear in that boat. He is a lamiglas pro staff guy so please watch all rods of that make you see for sale. This is terrible and I really feel for them and I know how "out of commision" this will put them for the season. They are waiting to hear back from Fish On isnsurance but who knows how much will be covered. The boat is probably on its way to mexico right now via stockton. Anyway, just fyi... rought times I guess

That's why I wrote about boats being stolen out of marinas in the Antioch area last week...Another guy I talked to said his vehicle was stolen from the Starbucks on Buchanan Rd. in Pittsburg last Friday night...His friend sitting with him said, "Hey, there goes your car"!...Not good...

Color, motor, anything to help spot it or make it stand out would help. You never know where the POS are headed with it. I doubt Mexico. To risky at the border.

I had one stolen a few years back , they found it stripped about a week later and dumped. My insurance gave me 10 k for tackle , gave me the hull and trailer for free out of salvage , and payed off my existing loan . I had state farm. Great insurance. It all worked out in the long run. I hope they best for your friend . Crazy feeling walking out to an empty driveway.

there are alot of boat thefts going on in the delta area right now. near rio vista, weds, two boat were stolen out of a local marina ( didnt get marina name) they cut the chains / locks off both boats and were headed towards franks. appears tow rope got caught in a green striped jet craft i/o boats prop. thieves stripped boat, stole 15hp 4 stroke merc kicker solid black cowl ( no stickers) and tried to scuddle boat. sheriff patrol found boat on the rocks in false river partically sunk. that boat was recovered. nfi on other boat.

It was our boat that was stolen today from our drive way in Discovery Bay. Kind of a rough day, my father really spent a lot of time making that boat just the way he wanted it and I had close to 9 hundred dollars in my swim bait box alone in that boat. I will very much miss all my gear and trust me.. these guys hit the jack pot. My father said this morning "this is the worst possible thing that could happen" and I assured him it was not. They are just things but I was anticipating the National Guard coming up and that got stolen from me too I guess. My insurance company has not contacted me yet but I am sure it will not be an easy fight to even get back to where I was with what I had. I am sure it will be a long time before I am back on the water again so.. that hurts too.
Wow, for lack of a better term this sucks. I really did not expect to come home to that.

Thank you guys for your empathy, advice and kind thoughts. Please keep an eye on your stuff too because I do not want you to have to go through this too. I would give almost anything just to have that stuff back that I can not replace. Thanks again guys and please do not let this happen to you. I spoke to the CHP officer this morning and he said this has been an epidemic the last three months out here in the delta region. Thanks again guys, take care.

Hey Brandon,

You guys got a picture to post of your boat.. I am always admiring other boats and my daily commute is SF to San Anselmo along 101. SO if i had a picture and saw anything matching your boat i'd call you!

Again sorry for the loss. Since my boat stays outside in the drive port it stays empty!

Post that picture we got guys all the way in texas and ohio browsing here..

i hear ya... it's a strange feeling knowing your vehicle should be where you left it, only to realize it was stolen or repo'd.

my brother and i stared at the spot where his 21 foot skeeter was parked. at least he took out the tackle and gear before they repo'd it.

still a strange feeling

Please, at least if you're storing your boat outside, pull ALL of your gear out of it.
At least you won't have to squabble with insurance about the value of your gear, which will surely be undervalued.

If we were all like Millie, we'd all be better off from what I'm seeing nowadays...She had Millie's Bait over in Vallejo for 46 years...When you walked up to the baitshop door she would have to press an electronic buzzer to release the locked door...Nobody got in unless she buzzed you...Pretty cool...

She also gave me a little lesson on business partnerships...She said many don't work...Do it on your own she told me..."The Owl" advised me yesterday not to depend on others if you can, figure out how to get it done yourself...I told him, "Yep, you're right"!...I've seen some strange things happen around our horse race betting group lately...One guy was giving the other guy false info from a paid betting sheet...I caught it and told Lee, no the "Moneyhorse" was the 7 in that race...No, Steve gave me the 5...Right then it clicked, he knew he'd been getting screwed for months...Cost him a small fortune the way Lee bets...The sheet gives 3 horses and Steve would just give him two horses...One race Steve said the Money horse was the 9 horse...Lee told him, "but there are only 8 horses in the race"...

I told that the other day to some guys and they laughed for about a half hour...It all comes down to people being jealous...They don't want others to win...Happy to say, I get to go pick the sheet up for Lee this Saturday...Just maybe, he'll start hitting some horses...Steve was repramanded last week like a little school boy getting a note sent home for his parents...The note read, "If you give Lee the wrong horses in the future, you won't get the sheet anymore.!" Yesterday he blamed it on his glasses...Yep, alls fair in Love, War, Fishing, and now Gambling!...

Like Millie said, "Don't trust nobody"!...Thanks for the advice Millie...

Thanks for the heads up. I live in Disco Bay and keep my boat in the front yard. I guess I'm going to have to lock it down. I already installed a motion light and camera after my boat seats got slashed in my front yard...

hey just a thought and i'm sure this is not the place to bring it up but. I wonder if they could fix the gps units to be tracked? they do it to cell phones, I'm sure it would be possible. sorry to hear Its hard to replace that kind of stuff and time lost on the water. good luck dealing with the insurance let us know how it works out for you. lets hope they catch them and drag them behind the boat with a noose around their neck. Scott,
Along the same lines, how hard would it be to put a Lojack in a bass boat?

Lojack cost a lot of $$. But you can go buy one of the pre pay phones for about $50 and hard wire it into your boat out of site and turn off the ringer and you know have a tracking device for cheap

Just wanted to say thanks to all you guys for the concern and willng attitudes. It is kind of a rare boat, new out this year with the 200 Mercury Pro Xs. It is Red and white with a single axel trailer. Minn kota fortex 101 on the front and HDS 7s. The funny thing is I wanted to get away from the bigger boats I had before to keep it garaged, lol. The insurance company call went well but we will see. I will miss my gear the most as crazy as that sounds.

Oh well, I am sorry people do things like this but if you live in Disco Bay you have to keep in mind your surrounding geography. It is a great city but never underestimate your lack of "buffer zone" between you and other citys more prone to these acts.

I really appreciate all your responses, it is probably better we did not know where it was because I would have to start visiting my Dad in prison on his new murder charge, ha ha. It is kind of sad and the insurance for a new boat will be unreal now.. oh well, kind of emabarassing to get your boat stolen too.

You can get Lojack installed for under $300. Not a bad investment considering the price of boats and the gear we keep in them. We'll be keeping our eyes out for the Motherless SOBs down here in Ventura Co. Hope all goes well with your insurance.

...if it dont feel normal, it probably aint!!!!

Cell phones work off repeaters. So if you call the PD and tell them you have a cell phone in the boat, car, truck they can call the cell co and have them call your phone and they can trianglate (sp) the location off three repeaters and will know were the phone is withen about 100' and some times down to 15' and because they are looking for a large idem the can find it real fast

Also alot of phones have gps built in so you can see/track were your kids or employes are by going on line and they are good to about 3' and only cost a little more.

Brickhouse sells GPS locaters for items, children, etc. There's one that plugs into the main power, with a backup battery built in. The initial purchase is kinda pricey ($700 I think), but you don't pay for a service, only as you need it (like when it gets stolen). And you can then just log into your account and it shows you on google maps ( I think) exactly where your unit is.
