There's over 12 pieces of heavy equipment working the area right now, including dozers, scrapers and blades. Survey stakes are planted. It's happening.

Manteca seeking to lure touristsOct 14:
Manteca seeking to lure touristsMANTECA -- Even the highest, fastest, coolest ride the Manteca waterslides had to offer won't measure up to the newest establishment the city plans to open in a year.
At least that's the hope of the city of Manteca.
Manteca will be home of a Bass Pro Shop in the new outdoor mall along the Highway 120 corridor next October. The 105,000-square-foot store is expected to feature indoor waterfalls, giant aquariums, wildlife mounts and a 12,000-square-foot restaurant that will serve wild game.
"The Bass Pro Shop is going to be such a magnetic draw, it's going to far exceed the economic impact from the Manteca waterslides," Manteca Community Development Director Kyle Kollar said. "People will drive a great distance to come to Bass Pro Shop."
Along with Big League Dreams and several other business parks in the planning stages, city officials have identified the strip of highway between Interstate 5 and Highway 99 as a major growth area.
The Springfield, Mo.-based retailer has 38 stores in 21 states and Canada, with Manteca being the company's first venture into Northern California.
Linda Abeldt, director of the Manteca Convention and Visitors Bureau, went to a Bass Pro Shop recently in Las Vegas. A nonsports fan, she initially thought she was going to "go crazy" having to stay in a sporting goods store for that long.
"Compared to other sports stores, it is night and day," Abeldt said. "With all the boats, animals and being built out with rocks and mountains,
it's like a Disneyland for adults," she said.
Each of its 38 stores have an average of 3 million visitors per year, Whiteley said. The Manteca Bass Pro will have a Yosemite theme.
When Manteca and Bass Pro Shop were in talks about bringing the store to the city, store officials presented surveys that said the average minimum stay at a Bass Pro Shop is four hours.
Abeldt also mentioned that her organization is hoping to incorporate an indoor bow range and gun range for regional tournaments into the store.
Even though it might target a certain type of audience, the outdoor recreation market is so large that it will likely make a big effect financially for the city. Surrounding businesses should also be excited because they will have an opportunity to persuade visitors to stay in Manteca after the experience at the Bass Pro Shop, Whitely said.

fall 2008, There was 15 plus pick-up trucks with workers doing the initial site work. Manteca is on the map boys... This town will soon have more sales tax revenue than they can spend. Costco, Hotels, more starbucks. I have to hand it to the City Council. I forgot the exact specification of the number of people who pass through the area and its central location to markets but it was staggering. RR
