Bass on the Tuolumne River

Post by Chad Sweitzer »

I had some time to kill, so I pull into this little fishing spot called Fox Grove, and there's a boat launch!!! Anybody caught fish here before? This place looks like a nice change from my Motherlode lakes, but is it worth fishing?
Thanks

Personally I wouldn't waste my time there. The water has been up but it will be low soon making it difficult to launch. The hyacinth will be back choking up the ramp. The bite is usually tough but I have had a few decent days there. Most of the fish are small. If you don't mind tossing a senko or drop shotting for a few small fish have at it.

I have caught some toads there in the past, go up stream of the ramp and throw a little of everything. Be careful going down stream as the water is drawn to the south side and becomes sort of a flume which will not allow you to get back up stream. Spinnerbaits, Senkos; Green Pump/Black Flake or Watermellon red and as it gets hotter fish will hang out in the mats and weed clumps.

Thanks for the advice! I'll have to try it out when I get tired of New Melones.
