Best Crank Rod for around $100

Post by Narcdogk9 »

Which is the best crank rod for 100 or less? And is fiberglass still the best for a crank rod?

Thanks Rod

I build a custom crankin' rod that's graphite. I use what is called a "Popping" blank which has a moderate action. It has all the advantages of fiberglass rods plus it's light weight and sensitive. Unfortunately it cost a bit more than $100. Some guys swear by fiberglass for crankin', but I like to feel what my crankbait is hitting on the bottom.

BPS crankin' stick-reg. price 49.95- watch for sales when you can get it for 29.95. I have two matched up with curados and they have performed flawlessly up to this point. I can't comprehend using rods in the loomis price range for this application. I go with the higher quality rods when sensitivity really makes a difference. I don't find that to be the case when I am throwing cranks.

I'f I had to squeeze one in at of just under $100 bucks I'd go with the St Croix Premier series crankbait rod - PC70HM ( I like the heavier action)

If you could push that budget up just a bit, that Skeet Reese Lamiglass SR705R is one heck of a lot of fishing rod for $169.

-02 cents.

Check out BPS Woo Daves Extreme rods, or the Stacy King line. The Woo Daves 7' med. cranking/spinnerbait rod goes for $69.99 on sale, and they are great rods for the money. And the power hump handle makes casting all day easier on the hands.
They're made in China, but so are a lot of premium rods (Shimano Crucial).
If you want a USA made rod in the $100 range, look at the Falcon Lowrider line. Great rods, right at $100. They have a good website, www.falconrods.com
