I figured out a great way to buy in bulk and make it last. First, go to wal-mart and buy a big spool of 12-15# big game in GREEN. Fill the spool a little more than half with the green big game. Tie one of the inline knots of your choice to connect the green big game to the seagar or fluoro of your choice. This will reduce your premium line to about 50-60 yards per spool.

Best of all, as you trim your line from tying and breaking off you will get to a point where after a cast, you will start to see the green filler under the layers of Fluoro. That is when you know it is time to change your line.

Would you use fluorocarbon line all season long, or only under curtain conditions?

Would it be beneficial under muddy water (0-2ft visibility)?

Thanks

I would like to touch on a very important point that I feel was overlooked. For starters I would like to note that I fish the deep rocks of lake mead 99percent of the year and use Flourocarbon only. (size 4lb to 8lb) What I would like to add is that there are a few Flouros mentioned above with very weak ABRASION resistance. Vanish, I have found, is the worst of the group when crawling over rocks, mutliple times in a day I would break off the bait during a cast, or during a hookset, and the few times I was able to retrieve my bait, I found that it had broke a few feet up the line from the hook where there was noticable abrasion. After a while I would start to check my line from the hook up about 10 feet after dragging over rock with a light jig, etc, and noticed a lot of abrasion on this line. Ended up ditching Vanish and going to Seaguar. The problem with the Seaguar is that it stretches a bit more then I like, but is suprisingly strong in the 6 and 8lb range being able to turn over rocks in some cases, and has very good abrasion resistance. When comparing Seaguar, Vanish, BPS XPS Flouro, and P-Line, I found that BPS and Seaguar have good abrasion resistance, but P-line and Vanish have less stretch. I had no choice but to go with the lower abrasion resistance, because of where I fish.

They all go for about 12-15 dollars for a 200yard spool ,and when Bass Pro has a sale I have been able to stock up on each for less then 10 dollars a spool.

I would like to throw in an unbiased opinion and say that ALL flourocarbons are sufficient in one case or another, but ALL flourocarbons have their faults. You can use the old construction quote "Quality, Cost, Time... pick two" ...in this case you have strength, memory, COST, abrasion resistance, but you cant have them all.

My use of fluoro lines is application specific, I tend to use it in slow presentation: plastics, jigs, dart & football heads... In faster presentations, I use good old big game for cranking and spinnerbaits. While I might get a marginal benefit from fluoro in speed presentations, I don't think it is enough to off set the cost and I tend to change line more often on cranks and spinnerbait rods.
