Best Lure Retriever?

Post by PeninsulaTile »

After a little moisture clean up/out of the boat and Tackle, I have come to the conclusion that I should put a lure retriever in the boat. Wouldn't it be wise to own such a device after thousands are spent on terminal tackle.?
So what preferances do you guys have?

I usually have two on my boat... the first is the telescopic pole - I think I got it from Cabelas.

The second is the fish-shaped plug knocker, and I have it spooled on an old reel and broken rod so I can work it (THANKS JAMES!!!)... these two have saved me a ton of money over the past few years.

Here's the pole retriever I use:

I have the same setup as Roger.
I bought my telescopic retriever from BPS and it's save so many cranks we call it the Golden Retriever. That's where I got my fish and chain plug knocker, too.
I replaced the line on my fish and chain plug knocker with nylon construction string, which is totally water proof and last forever.
Plus, it's about 1K test (jk) and is a little smaller in diameter that the cord that comes with the retriever, so I can have enough line to get down to the really deep swimbaits that can get stuck when I'm bottom dragging.
Attitude plus effort equal success

This is the best lure retriever I've used by far, much better than the one supplied with the Tru-Tungsten Reel-A-Buoy.

Best lure retriever ever is my mexican guide when I was at Lake Baccarac. He was able to get every stuck lure out. We were out fishing for 6 days straight and we fished in the thickest brush ever seen (makes the delta looks like Berryessa). I never lost a single rig the whole week. For everyday use i have the plug knocker which works pretty good but I have to do all the work myself and I don't get every lure back (most but not all - theres a lucky craft 128 stuck on a stump in Clear lake). No I won't tell you where it is :)

Be careful with the telescoping BPS

Post by Brian D. »

knocker... those flimsy sections tend to dismantle and separate when you least expect them to. After loosing two over the years I bought a better aluminim telescoping sectional at Lowes and modified the end with chains. This is much sturdier then the retail versions.

The best one ever is the Tempress FISH ON lure retriever.

It has a cord, plastic line storage/combo handle.

The weighted slug slides on your line and acts as a knocker plus it has a nose full of different stainless hooks that literally grab your lure by the line tie! You can get your deep divers back, or even jigs, off the bottom. Snag a spoon? No sweat, it will grab that too, or your snap swivel you name it.

The only downside is that it is no longer in production. Sometimes even great inventions aren't a big success.

I check E bay every now and then.

I can get one, I am not sure if this site is self hosting for photos?

Might just email it to ya.

Finding one will be tough. I bought mine from Sally when she sold the TRAP some years ago, and snagged the second from one of her employees who never used it. (The second one went to Tom Seward.)

The little hooks in the nose of the retriever is one heck of an idea. The only downside I could come up with is it could potentially snap off a bill but that hasn't happened yet.

The plastic line holder/pull handle acts like a spinning reel spool and the retriever whips off cord like a cast going down your line.

I will get a pic of it today.

I took a plug knocker added more chain on it for gripping the hooks put 200 lb test line/rope on the reel got close to 70 ft on it. placed the reel on a old reel seat from a cheap wal mart pole from days long ago.

This set up has retrived my Hudds from forty feet, changed my whole mind set when fishing high dollars baits deep. I think it was Ture Bass where I saw a simular set up with two guys fishing swim baits

The Daiwa lure retriever is excellent and has been quite popular with our Lucky Craft fisherman. Check it out:
