Coming from East Bay, is it worth the extra drive to Franks Tract over Big break for LMB? I don't have a GPS so prefer not to roam too far from launch.
I've fished Big Break about a dozen times now and it (or I most likely) is very inconsistent.. I've caught limit 2 times and other times, only like 4-5 bites/bumbs all day. Does Franks Tract or Sherman lake have a better bass bite? Or is there a slough with a launch someone can recommend?
thanks
Big Break or Franks?
Re: Big Break or Franks?
Both spots can provide great fishing.
If you have been fishing big break it never hurts to try something new. Franks Tract (lauch out of Russo's or Sugarbarge) will provide you some great fishing without having to travel far to do it.
Just fish the tuli islands and any weed beds you can find and hold on.

I wouldn't even bother going to sherman, unless you want some striper action. I like frank's personaly, launch at russo's or the sugar barge. You can troll aroung bethel island and fish docks all day or head out and fish. I was just out there yesterday, it was slow but we boated a few bass and striper, I got my first lunker punker fish out there yesterday too.

What kind of boat are we talking about and what type of range do you have? I personally prefer to launch out of Russo's because it's central to the entire delta.
If you're launching out of the Break and the weather is nasty (i.e. strong winds going the opposite direction of the current) it can be a really wet/rough ride. (yeah I know I know... that's what she said)

Re: Big Break or Franks?
Thank you all for the advice so far..
I'm in a 19' Nitro w/ 125 Merc. I've run everywhere in big break and have experienced the chop and winds. Until the GPS gets here, I've been sticking with wide areas so I can use PoIs to get back to the launch.
Any recommendations on sloughs with launch access?

With your boat you can run anywhere in the Delta, You just need the confidence to learn it. Get yourself a good map, Launch at Russo's and go find Holland Cut, and Holland Riverside Marina, fish all around Holland Cut for the day then go back, next time Launch at Holland Riverside Marina and go down to Cruiser Haven, in just a few trips you'll have learned the central Delta...........

Here's a link to the map I use along with my gps(no navionics chip yet). It is a good map of the entire delta, I've used it to find my way around out there. I also use it to find new launch places in area's I don't know. It has been a great help and was only $8 or so.

Yes. There are times you can get stuck in the break. If your in franks you have more options... my 2 cents.
