The Sonoma County Belly Boat Bass Club (SCBBBC) held their season opener on Lake Sonoma on Saturday, 2/27/21. 15 anglers came out to see who could capture the title.

Veteran SCBBBC angler Binh Phi of Milpitas, CA landed on top with a 9.90 pound 5 fish limit fishing out of his Buck’s Bag Bronco pontoon boat. Binh reported catching 20 to 30 fish on the jerkbait and crankbait off the dam. “I knew there was a week’s worth of warmer weather. I went to the dam to see if they moved up on the warm rocks. I started out with the jerkbait and had a limit by 7:00 AM. Once the sun came up, I continued to cull but only by ounces. I then switched over to a craw colored crankbait and started catching better fish. I was paralleling the dam and bouncing the crankbait off the rocks”, said Phi.

Another veteran SCBBC angler, Rich Caro, scored the largest bass of the tournament weighing in at 2.92 pounds. Per Caro, “I caught it on a dropshot in the last 15 minutes of the tournament.” He reported catching his other 3 fish on a ½ ounce hula grub in 30 feet of water. He was 1 fish shy of his 5 fish limit but reported having a great day on the water.

Here’s your top three:
1. Binh Phi – 9.90 pounds
2. Jonathon Graves – 9.38 pounds
3. David Brown – 8.26 pounds

Up next for SCBBBC is a team tournament format in collaboration with Bass N Tubes on Saturday, 3/13/21 out of Piper Point Marina on the California Delta.
