boat drain plug-tightness

Post by backlash »

How hard are you suppose to screw in boat plugs? Just screw in hand tight? Or really lean on it? (yeah I know...depends on how much water you want in your boat) can you over tighten"em? Thanks

I just hand tighten mine. Mine is just plastic so I wouldn't want to strip it. I have never had a problem with water getting in.

I have a twist lock one not the flip lock one and I tighten it to hand tighten then one turn until the bars are parrellel with the boat. These are rubber so you dont want to over tighten (like with leverage) as you will compress and crack it over time, however I would go to hand tighten as far as you can. For the flip lock you go to hand tighten then flip the lock up or down and it adds compression...I just dont trust this style!
