tax in LA county

Post by Rick G »

The tax rate is 2% of the purchase price of your boat less the price of the trailer. It goes down 1/4% a year as the boat depreciates, untill it goes away. Price of playing poker I guess. Still it sucks. Rick G.

Must be the same as it is here in the OC. What a racket. A luxury tax on those that are able or make the sacrifices to own a boat.

Do you still pay the luxury tax if you use your bassboat for business?

No Luxury Tax in Washington

Post by Marc »

I was wondering in case I move back to So. California. We don't have a luxury tax up here, but that will change as soon as someone thinks of it.

If California charges a luxury tax for your transportation for work, then it obviously is NOT a "luxury" tax.

Heres my gripe....

Post by anglerformerlyknownas CJ »

Orange County sets the value of my boat every year and taxes me
a percentage of that perceived value. However it was Orange County who pushed hardest to get motor restrictions on DVL, causing my EFI rig to lose major value in my market.

How they can tax me on a perceived value while not taking in account the actual value of my boat is something I've written OC tax collector John Moorlach about. No response from him of course, except a letter to tell me my payment is past due.
