California: Prop 6 IS the gas tax repeal measure. Vote YES to repeal!
Hi guys:
Fishing is expensive enough and over the past 11 months (update: now 12 months), we've been paying more than necessary to fuel our truck and boat. We can cut that cost by voting YES on Prop 6.
Prop 6 IS the gas tax repeal measure. You may not realize it because there's no proposition on the ballot that actually says anything about a gas tax repeal. Well, that's because California attorney general Xavier Beccerra (vote him out too) intentionally re-wrote the original initiative to deceive you, but it IS the gas tax repeal.
This will be your chance to do away with the tax (and car registration increase) that Jerry Brown and the Sacramento politicians shoved down your throat when they passed Senate Bill 1 last year. YOU, the voter, never voted that in. THEY imposed it on you. That alone should be your reason to vote YES on 6 and repeal the gas tax. Send Sacramento a message that they won't do something like that without voter approval. They get plenty of money from existing gas taxes, but they just chose to blow it on other crap.
And here's more reason to vote yes: Prop 6 will not only repeal the increased gas tax and car registration, but it will require that Sacramento will never be able to raise gas taxes without putting it to a vote of the people.
Believe me, if this fails, the State "leaders" will take it upon themselves to increase all kinds of other taxes without your say: Cell phone tax, water tax, and yes they are itching to do away with Prop 13 too.
The gas tax repeal is not an "attack on safety," as the opposition would like you to believe. It's an attack on your wallet! This is Jerry Brown reaching directly into your pocket and taking out a few more bucks every time you're at the pump. And guess what? The SB1 gas tax is a FOREVER tax. There is no end date to it.
There's no argument here, guys...Vote YES on Prop 6 to repeal the gas tax. And please tell everyone you know about this and tell them to vote yes as well.

I agree with the gas tax, California roads are the worst in the country. This is a fishing forum, please don’t post anything political.
Re: California: Lower your fishing costs
Agreed. Vote yes on 6 to repeal this illegal gas and registration tax. We all know that the money raised by this illegal tax is not going to fix our roads or bridges. Just another Jerry Brown slush fund.

Re: California: Lower your fishing costs
Our roads are the worst because the California politicians squandered away road repair funds from pre-existing gas taxes to pay for pet projects and other nonsense. Then they scream that they don't have the money and stick everyone with a massive tax. Vote YES on Prop 6 to stick it back to the politicians! We were already paying one of the highest gas taxes in the nation before this new tax. They couldn't repair our roads with that? Follow the money, my friend.JoeLanghans wrote:I agree with the gas tax, California roads are the worst in the country. This is a fishing forum, please don’t post anything political.
Secondly, I posted this as a way to get your fishing expenses down, as stated in the headline and opening paragraph. Therefore, it's a fishing-related topic.

Voted YES. Our roads are the worst due to waist and mis-appropriation of funds, not a lack of funding. They'll waist this increase as well if not stopped. Just look at your bridge tolls. Dan

Is there a petition drive
On tags for license plates
And for toll charges crossing briges in northern ca. Increased fee's on and already fee they are charging now
If not there are two ways they can raise more money in fee's too cover the cost they will lose on the gas tax if it go down to defeat. I pay $350.00 and $375.00 in tags for my suv's im just wondering if the gas tax go down will tags go up even more. And worse yet gas hit $5.00 or more a gallon. The dem's wont stop till they bleed ca. dry Its a real shame too.

Voting Yes. Thank you for the post.
Re: California: Lower your fishing costs
Definitely Yes for me. Most of the funds will be diverted to paying for high speed rail to nowhere and pension costs anyway. Even the money spent on roads and bridges won't be effective:
"California spends over $400,000 per state-controlled mile of road. Texas, in contrast, spends less than half that – $177,000 per mile.", from Orange County Register

Thought gas is fishing-related since it’s what gets us to and on our fishing spots, but fair enough. Thanks.ash wrote:This post was moved to the political as it is non fishing related.

Well, the petition drive is long over. That’s how Prop 6 got on the ballot. Nearly a million people signed the initiative — almost twice as much as required.jiggin4bass wrote:Is there a petition drive

But if you’re concerned about car registration tags, part of SB1 was increasing car registration. Prop 6 will also repeal that increased fee. So you should definitely be voting YES on 6 if the registration increase is of great concern to you as well as the additional gas tax.
As for the higher bridge tolls, that’s a “what if” and would be a separate issue all together.
Everyone needs to know that when Prop 6 wins, everything will go back to the way it was before November 1st of last year — before Jerry’s gas tax increase went into effect (the car registration hike actually kicked in January 1st of this year). Sacramento will still get money for roads that existing gas taxes and car fees already provided. Prop 6 will make it like this gas tax/car registration increase never happened, and it will prevent the politicians from ever imposing something like that again. They would be required to put it to a vote of the people.
That’s all Prop 6 does. So again, vote YES on 6, and please tell your family and friends to do the same.

As long as a oil stays at 75.00 to 77.00 a barrel price wont drop much in ca. There no reason its as high as it is now. Take all the blending additives out here in ca. Price would drop alot.

What's next is we just bend over and take it, I'm afraid.jiggin4bass wrote:That didnt work now whats next ?
There might be some kind of legal or political action by the Yes on 6 camp, but as for the gas tax, it is now here to stay. That is, unless another repeal initiative gets on a ballot in the future. But Becerra got re-elected, so if there is another measure that would qualify, he'd likely pull the same stunt and put a misleading title and summary on it. That's what most likely did in the prop. You can thank Brown and Becerra for it going down.
