Did you know that the California Striped Bass incorporated in 1974 as a 501C(4) non-profit organization. This was done by the founders as they wanted to be politically active when it came to our mission statement "Dedicated to the preserve, protect and enhance the Striped Bass fishery in California" Most striper anglers are unaware of the accomplishments, successes and hurdles of our Association over the years and what we are currently doing to protect our fisheries and the Delta. Anyone recall the Striped Bass stamp? What about the net pen program? There are many issues affecting our fisheries. I see a lot of posts with very happy anglers with mostly fish under 4 or 6 pounds. The photo here was taken at Harris Harbor in Pittsburg in 1985 and the stripers averaged 30 pounds. One of the anglers is a member of the West Delta Chapter and he assured me they caught a lot more that day but limited themselves to one fish apiece. We strive to bring this type of productive fishing back to the Delta where in 1915 the commercial fishing of striped bass resulted in 1.8 million pounds ot stripers averaging 10 pounds were harvested.
We need fishermen who care. Applications for membership can be found on our State Board website for West Delta, Isleton, Stockton and Modesto Chapters. Please visit it at http://www.striper-csba.org/
There will be more to come.
