I have had the same types of years you are having when it comes to allergies. I even took some medications that caused me to sunburn very badly, even when using sun block many times during the day. After finally trying Flonase, a nasal spray, I found relief. The problem with it is it is a prescribed med unless you get it online. It is not too expensive, when you compare the misery to the cost, but most important is it must be used every day regularly and for several days before you feel the relief. Many times others say they received no relief from it, but it was because they did not use it right. You must spray each time on time and continue and not miss one useage. Give it a try.....

I've heard Cortisone shots works

May need to see an ear/nose/throat specialist and ask them what to recommend. May want to get an alergy test too so that way they know exactly what's triggering the alergies....

Good luck!

Dude...I'm an expert on this!

For 25 years I was too crippled all spring with alergy's. It was the worst when fishing. The wind hitting me in the face while running around seemed to trigger them. Then about five years ago I finally found a miricle cure! It is a shot called Kenolog (sp?) The hard part is finding a Dr. that will give it to you. Some doctors say it will cause damage to your liver over long term use. But I figured if it cuts a year or two of my life, at least the rest of my life will be WAY more enjoyable! The doctor I use is in Antioch his name is Dr Slarve. If he is not covered undar your insurance, it is still way worth his fee to get this. In two days you wont need to take anything for your alergys! So you will save money in the long run. The last two years I've had to get another shot 1 month after the first, becaues the pollen has been so bad. I no longer have to take anything for my alergys! I can breath through both sides of my nose! No more watery ichy eyes! No more sneezing! Life is good!

See an allergist

Post by Scott L »

If you have good insurance find an allergist (MD) and get an alergy test. It consists of 90-100 pin pricks on your back (no, it's not painful) and it will tell you exactly what you are alergic to and what you are not. Then the Dr. can prescribe you the correct drugs. This can get very serious if you don't treat it correctly. You have a limited tolerance to the allergens that affect you. If you keep over exposing yourself to those allergens you end up over your tolerance level at the slightest exposure. I went through this several years ago and the doctor explained how to minimize exposure and prescribed some excellant medication. My worst allergens ended up be grass and week pollen. The wind/ boat rides force feed the stuff into your body. At the time, I ended up with Nasacort (nasal spray that took 2-3 days to kick in, Alegra, and an inhaler. The Nasacort and inhaler could also be used as a profalactic (sp?) prevents/masks the sinus prior to exposure.

Now that I no what I am up against, I have managed to get by with Claritin, but if you are as bad off as I was you will need to get a handle on it first. You really need to identify exactly what you are allergic to.

Sorry for the long rambling, but when I got messed up 10-11 years ago I was a mess.

Good luck,

Scott

Go see your doctor

I've tried many over-the-counter allergy drugs but none stopped my allergy suffering. Fed up, I saw my doctor and he prescribed Allegra. I've been fine since and we're going on two years.

But like Scott L says above, at a minimum, see a doctor or even a specialist to get the proper treatment.

Ditto, Flonase was the answer for me. *NM*

Allegra and it's doing a pretty good job. I was using Claritin however it doesn't work for me. Main thing I found is to flood myself with plenty of water and take an Allegra esepcially if the wind starts to pickup.

You think you have it bad, I moved out to Disco in Nov and have been feeling the effect ever since the sun started to come out in March. I feel your pain...

Zertec is the best

Post by MikeT »

I used to die out on the Delta. My eyes would be so irritated they would close. WOuld have to use eyedrops and it would take a few hours to come back. Started taking Zertec about 3 years ago and it is by far the best out there. I don;t have any problems anywhere anymore... Mike

Painless, inexpensive relief!

Post by Larry Douglas »

This has worked for my family for years:

1 Tabls local "wild" honey
1 Tabls apple cider vinegar
1 8 oz glass water

Mix and drink 2-3 times per week prior to and during allergy season. The mixture tastes like apple cider.
The "wild" honey component is essential! If you're allergic to clover...use clover honey. If you're allergic to almond, use almond honey. If you don't know what you're allergic to, use the "wild" honey from the area you're going to fish.
This works on the same premise as a smallpox vaccination. Introduce low levels of the offending substance, and let your body respond by producing antibodies or anti-allergens.

My wife got me a new allergy drug called Cialus. It really did'nt do much for the allergy and has a peculiar side affect. I keep knocking stuff off the table and sometimes I can't go to work for 6 hours, but the wife is much happier now.

I have become an allergy expert due to my own afflictions with allergies and asthma.

Most likely you have grass allergies.

Simple solution:

FLONASE!!!
You have to get it from the doctor. You squirt it up your nose, it smells like dirt, but you only take it once daily and it doesn't have all the wierd side effects everything else does.

I bet that many of the side effects you though were from the allergies were actually from the over the counter meds you were taking. Many of them raise your blood pressure, wire you and some make you very drowzy.

Even if you don't have insurance, FLONASE is worth the money.

Something else to buy is a nasal saline solution to flush your nasal passages out until the FLONASE kicks in.

PS> take the FLONASE before bed so that is working at maximum power between 5am and noon when the pollen counts are highest.

http://www.flonase.com/

The good thing is the weather is going to change this week, rain will suppress the pollen to some extent. The bad news is it will extend how long allergy season will be around. I used to get allergies so bad, they would hospitalize me.

Flonase is the best thing on the market. A few years ago I started taking this and I can finally get out and enjoy bed fishing. However, during the spring on delta the cottonwood trees will wipe you out. It does not matter what you take. I wear a mask and wrap around glasses. Yes, I look like a dork, but it sure helps. Flonase does not work right away. It must be taken a week or two before results are seen.
