Can you Believe 17+ million Fishing Days in 2011

Post by wayneg »

Did you know in 2011 an estimated 17,382,021 is the number of freshwater fishing days California anglers went fishing that compared to 7,192,655 for saltwater. Westernbass just received the American Sportfishing Association's (ASA) 2013 report. We where able to get a pdf version of this report and have published it on our site. I often read how fishermen question what is the economic impact of our fishing habits. Do fishermen help a local economy? Well, this report is loaded with the economics of our sport and what it creates in local jobs and our local economic impact. It is really a must read for anglers who often wonder what fishing does for our state.

Here is the link to the 12 page report.

I think the average guy that owns a boat will spend $75.00 for gas, $15.00 for gate and launch, $25.00 for food and drink, and another $10.00 misc. So that puts it at $125.00 for a day of fun fishing, probably double that for someone taking their boat off shore.
If fresh water tournament guys make up one half of the fishing days than that would be about 8.5 million X $125.00 or $106,250,000.00 and that is not even stopping at the local tackle shop, BPS or mechanic to get that tire fixed or engine tuned.

I know that an average trail tournament cost me about $350.00 which includes $150.00 for half of entry, $100.00 in fuel and oil, $30.00 for gate and launch, $20.00 for food and drinks, and $50.00 in tackle shop expenses; line, worms, a couple of lures and couple packs of hooks and does not include travel or lodging if I am heading out of the area.

I can see where fishing is a multi billion dollar economic boost for the state and nation!
Damn, I am going to start a fishermans rehab center to help rid us of this addictive evil! Maybe I can set one up on the tranquil shores of Clear Lake or the delta! lol
