Chris Zaldain/Kyle Fox altercation. Fox banned from Elite's

Post by Deadstick »

B.A.S.S. has reportedly banned Bassmaster Elite Series angler Kyle Fox for the Oneida Lake event and the entire 2013 season after an on-the-water altercation with fellow competitor Chris Zaldain at the Lake Michigan tournament last month. According to sources, Fox will have to re-qualify for the Elites via the Bassmaster Opens if he wishes to return to the circuit, and that can happen no earlier than 2014.
The sources told BassFan that the incident was verbal in nature and was brought to the attention of B.A.S.S. by the marshals who witnessed the exchange from Fox’s and Zaldain's boats. Statements were gathered from all parties before B.A.S.S. arrived at its decision.

Messages seeking comment from B.A.S.S. and Fox have not been returned. Zaldain, reached by phone, opted not to comment.

This is Fox’s rookie season on the Elite Series and after a string of solid finishes to start the year, he tailed off with three straight results of 78th or worse in the last three tournaments. He’s currently 63rd in points. He held the day-1 lead at the Mississippi River, but plummeted to 83rd after day 2.

This isn’t the first time an Elite Series angler has been suspended for on-the-water behavior. Kevin Langill was banned during the 2009 season for a violation of sportsmanship standards after an incident with Boyd Duckett at Lake Guntersville and has not fished the circuit since.

Good riddance to bad garbage. Just what he DID to Zaldain should have been enough to at least get him reprimanded, let alone the stuff he said. There's no place in the sport for a dirtbag like Fox. None.

I am suprised that "race had to be an issue" until something was done to correct the behavior. I think Chris has acted like a true professional. Kinda bugs me when guys are getting into fights on the water. The older I get the more I am just going to walk away, I guess I am pretty unaware of just how many fights must occur. Again I really miss the days of brotherhood and hard work. Skin color did not matter, Boat size did not matter, we had a common bond that only fisherman could understand...

Cant take away my memories :)

All our local tournaments call out some rule (like the 50 yard rule) against encroachment, is there such rule for the elite guys? I remember watching them fishing within talking distance. What's up with that? I think that's got to change.

Like Rich said, it's too bad race had to come into play for the ban, what about everything else Kyle did? How dumb can one be to go that far? Oh well, he got what he deserved.

Good points, I do not know the answer but at a recent tournament they spoke of 80 boats in an area and another top guy finding a sweet spot close but away from the madness.

I like it when I hear biffle, and denny grinding out river areas with nobody in sight. I think I remember a recent FLW 2nd place finisher saying he did not see a fellow competitor for 4 days in his area.

Kind of getting off point but I would love to know the actual ettique of the elites and FLW top competitors. I will always be a a fan of AMART as he finds his own water and fish. I can understand how conflicts happen as guys are starving out there with this economy. Glad an organization called B.S. and put the hammer down!
