Clear Lake, best swimbaits to bring?

Post by 510lipripper »

What are your favorite and most productive swimbaits to throw at CL? I was watching the HBC #2 and saw a lot of sick looking floaters but dont know what ones they were. What are the best floaters and sinkers to use? thanks

I am no swimbait expert but I've been bit pretty good up there on wake baits, AC minnow, 3:16 Baby Bass, 7" Slammers. I've done pretty good on a Hudd shad in lavander. Have not done great on Basstrix but I think that's just me. I think Shellcracker and 6" Punker would also be great but I haven't tried them. Had a lot of follows with a Triple Trout but no takers.

Caught a pretty good one there Monday on the Tru Tungsten Trout. I adjusted it to a slow fall and caught a 7.2 off a rockpile.
Great bait but Ive used it twice and the paint is falling off already. Anybody else have this problem?

Really, I've watched them being thrown a lot on CL but never seen one get bumped. I've seen the same guy catch em on MS Slammers and Triple Trout though. He's caught a couple medium sized fish on the 316 Wake Jr. that I used to throw without success.

I have money minnows, basstrix, osperys, and a baitsmith. Im looking to get some hard baits. I just got a 6 3/4" kong floater in bass and a mikey.
I want to get a wake jr. Does anyone know where the have then in the bay area or near CL? What color hits?

I think Tackle It in lake port has the Wake Jr's not 100% sure on that though. You might want to give them a call. If they dont the Hook Line and Sinker has them.

hey 510lipripper, just wanted to let you know we have a great selection of wakebait Jr's here at Clearlakeoutdoors. As far as hot colors in these baits, I would go with Hitch, Baby Bass, Ayu, or Chartreuse shad. I would also suggest throwing an MS Slammer and A.C Minnow, both are excellent wake baits and are working well right now. Give me a call or come on by when you are up and we will take good care of you. Thanks, Troy (707)262-5852

Im no swimbait expert but if anyone finds an AC minnow (Shad) floating around up there let me know. I lost that dude last friday night, just came off, was on my way to Rattlesnake from Shag when I noticed it was gone.

But seriously I'll pay shipping to get that dude back if someone finds it.

Let me know.
