There was a lot of uproar over the new costs and procedures for Clear Lake. How has that worked out?
What can a So. Cal expect if he wants to launch?
How about Ariz. or Nev. registered boats?
Thanks for your input and info.

Re: CLEAR LAKE NEW LAUNCHING REGULATIONS
You will have to stop at one of the tackle shops and fill out some paperwork. Depending on where your boat was last you will have to be inspected. Make sure your boat is clean, drained and dry. Open your live wells and make sure they are dry, wipe them out really well with a towel and make sure your bilge is drained and show up with the plug pulled. If you pass inspection you will be given a band for your trailer and your trolling motor. The color of the band changes every month. Last month I paid 10 bucks.
If your boat has been in a contaminated lake within the last 45 days they will run a muscle sniffing dog around it. Thus clean, drained and dry had become the standard. Good Luck![/b]

See info. in the link below.

The short of it is that if your coming from an infected state, infected county with-in CA, or infected waterbody in last 30 days you will have to go through an "inspection" by a "certified inspector". This is different than the "screening" that boats from Nor-Cal will go through. It will also cost you a little more. I think it's $20.00 which includes the band if your boat passes inspection.
I would advise calling ahead to make sure the place your going to get the band has a "certified inspector" available when you arrive so you don't have to wait around, or be sent somewhere else.
The county doesn't have any dogs...

If you need a Certified inspection
Certified inspection fee: If a vessel requires inspection by a certified inspector, the fee for a certified inspection by County personnel is based on the length and type of water vessel, as follows:
•Vessels up to 12 feet in length: $15
•Vessels from 12 to 18 feet: $25
•Vessels 18 feet and longer: $40
•Vessels that contain ballast tanks and/or bladders shall be charged an additional $20 per inspection
If a water vessel passes certified inspection, compliance bands will be issued. For non-local water vessels, the compliance bands will be valid through each calendar month in which they are issued. The band color will change each month.

Those are the old #'s. The "inspection" fees were reduced and it's now supposed to be anything under 23 ft. is $20 or $25. Can't remember which off hand. This was done specifically to get bass boats into the lower range. I think there is still an extra $$ for ballasts.

Not since last month and not with a boat from SoCal...The County of Lake doesn't have any "Quagga" dogs. There are a couple of Wardens in the area that do have them.
If people are having trouble with the new system don't be shy about posting it, or contacting the people listed in the county link above and letting them know about it. Not that the folks on this board are particularly shy about that sort of thing...but seriously the only way to have a program that works for anglers and the only way to have it improve as time goes on is for people to be up front when there are things that aren't working as good as they could.
