What do you feel is the most equitable points sytem for smaller clubs, say 30 or less fishermen?
thanks much,

club tournament points system
Re: club tournament points system
A simple way to go about is to establish a base number of points for showing up to the tournament and a number for winning the event. Then tick down a point per place for the remaining places. Those showing up but not weighing in a fish would receive show up points only. This is how we go about points earning in California Federation events.
Example:
100 points for first plus 5 show up points.
1st - 105
2nd - 104
3rd - 103
4th - 102
5th - 101
and so on through the end of the field.

Re: club tournament points system
John I have fished alot of clubs and I'll give you my oppion. The way Tony broke it down to you in my oppion is the best way. And let me explain why. Frist of all every member in your tourny who catches at least one fish gets points. And in my experience this keeps poeple intrested longer so you don't get that I'm totally out of the points so why fish these last few tournaments. The last club I was in only gave points to the top finishers and big fish points. In that club we had a menber who fished every tournament never finished high enough to get any points and never caught big fish, but they did catch fish. We had 10 tournaments they finished the year with 100 points exactly. (We had 10 points for show up) Angler of the year had 1020 points. If a point system similar to the one Tony pointed out would have been in place the team that ended the season with 100 points would have had 960 points. And had been in the top 10 for the yearly standings.
You can also add point for each fish and big fish things like that, but I like to keep it simple and your top teams will still be on top they just won't beable to run away with it half way thru the season.
Just my oppion! Not trying to bash any other point systems.

Here's a related question.
Sorry to hijack your post John but I have a related question. Is there a set formula for payout that is typically used? I'm going to be fishing tournaments for the first time and noticed that flyers will say something like top 20% get's paid but never mentions the actual payout formula. I know the actual amounts would depend on number of entries, but is there a certain percentage payback that everyone uses? Thanks Jeff C.
Re: Here's a related question.
John thats a tough question. Most clubs will do a percentage in pay out based on paying one place per set mumber of boats for example 1 in 4. What I like to do for a club setting is pay 1 in 3 with the last place getting entry fees back and winner getting around 40 to 45% of the pay out. Most clubs hold back 15 to 20% for club funds. I know its not alot of info but i may help you understand.
Re: club tournament points system
We (Modesto AmBassAdors) have a basic but what we feel is a very fair system.
5 Points for attending outing
1st - 50
2nd - 49
3rd - 48
4th - 47
and so on, and so on
The catch is you MUST catch a fish to place, if you don't then you only receive your 5 points for attending outing.
We figure in Outing points minus TWO throughouts, and Meeting points to rank our members.

Re: club tournament points system
John,
Our point system is:
One point for each fish you catch.
One point for each pound rounded up (10.5+ = 11 pts or with a scale in ounces 10 lbs 8 oz.+ = 11 pts).
Show up points.
Top ten bonus points; 1st place = 10 pts, 2nd =9 pts and so on.
This really helps mix it up pretty good. This way those who catch fish get rewarded. There have been some great come from behind point advancements with this system. I have been on this system for over ten years now and it works well. It's not boring.

Re: club tournament points system
Hey John,
The Modesto Castmasters use the following point system. We only allow 25 boaters and 25 non boaters, so we use the 50 point system.
1st = 50
2nd = 48
3rd = 46
4th = 44
5th = 42
etc.....
We also award 2 points for attendin g a meeting, and 3 points for fishing the event. For an angler to get points, they must weigh in at least 1 fish. Meeting and fishing points are not affected if an angler doesn't weigh in a fish. The 2 point gap works well, giving our members the opportunity to make up a few points by finishing well in an event.
Good luck to you!
