Collins or Rollins Lake

Post by Smile_n_Jax »

Has anybody fished these two? Just looking around for different places to go.

Larry Hemphill fishes Collins and catches some huge spots. I believe he like the Yamamoto 5 inch D/T Grub in color180 I don't know if he rigs those on a football head jig or trails it on a rod strainer. You might check the lake report to see if anyone is fishing it. I live fairly close to Rollins and fish it every now and then but will wait until spring up there. The 21st of this month is looking good for a bite window.

Collins can be excellent. Don't go if it is muddy, very tough. Larry uses a 3/8 Rodstrainer, Brown Orange with the 180 grub trailer. So do I!!

Come spring you can have a real ball up there, no skiers until Memorial day and no jet skis ever.

It is a little spendy, but you won't use much gas.

They both can fool you with nice fish but I have heard that Rollins is going to be closed for this year as they will be repairing the dam and since CFW is fed from Rollins and it is almost full without rain, I would assume that to be a fact.

I was there yesterday for about 4 hours and it was pretty slow. Water is still 46-47. The fellow that recently caught the 11 1/4 largemouth was there also - he caught 2 bass and I caught 3 - nothing over 2 lbs. Another boat had 4 smaller bass. I think it was just an off-day. Fishing will improve with the rain we are now getting - should get the water temp up to 50 or so. Drop-shots and jigs are working well - and yes - even the Hemphill special - brown orange jig w/ #180 Yamamoto grub!! Most of my bass are 20 to 40 feet deep!
