We southern boys are happy for Don too. Kinda funny how the whole thing was over at 6:33 AM, then we took a beating in 4 foot waves heavy rain and 30+ MPH wind for the next 8 hours. But it could have changed at any moment with all the wood and plastic trouts in the lake for the next 8 hours.Mattlures wrote:That was Don's second time ever fishing the lake. Don is one of few that didn't surprise people that he won. That's why he got the invite, cuz he ROCKS.
I hope his trailer doesn't break on the drive home while hauling that $10,000.00 home !!!

Here is our champion on stage with Stan Vanderburg and Byron Velvick.

Re: Congratulations Don Osborne
What gets me is, if you look at the talent that was fishing Casitas on that day and compare it to the amount of fish caught, it must have been one tough day out there.

Yea, I was 43rd boat out and Don O was the 2nd boat out. Don O you could have been a buddy and yelled at me before I got out of the marina that it was over
Congrats to you also my friend.
I had only two hits all day. Had fun anyway (very windy and rain). Hey Leroy Thanks for keeping me company out there, Good times, even though the fishing was tough, I wish you could have fished too.
Nice to meet some more of you also.
Tunaman, Sorry we did not stay. We decided to head for home and had a long drive. The BBQ and drink sure sounded good and like fun, Can we have a rein check?
The wife and I had fun
Don.

Re: Congratulations Don Osborne
Hey guys thank you very much for the kind words, Here is how my day started. As stated by all anglers it was a tough bite all right and I got one. On prefish I went to this spot and noticed some giant boulders just out of the water. I thought to my self I had better mark this spot just in case we get rain. Well that was the case for the week and that spot was the only spot during prefish that I was touched. A short strike on a hud made up my mind to go to that spot first. I was boat # 1 and Ken Huddleston drew # 50 to go out first so I knew chances to get my spot were insured 2nd boat out. I pulled up grabbed my Conway custom rod and on the first cast of the HBC, with the Old Castaic soft tail hard head that Ken Huddleston made years back, tossed it on the boulder and Bang 10 seconds in the boat. My observer didnt even have the cap off the camera and I didnt even have my electronics turned on. She was good enough to weigh first place with 10.52. I never put her on a scale during the day becasue she was going to be in the live well for 8 hours so I wasnt possitive she was the winning fish. I never saw or got touched the rest of the day. Weather conditions were just about at my limit to stay possitive but it helped to have a pig in the well to help the mind control. I couldnt get the clock to tick fast enough and finally went to weigh in 30 minutes early just to get out of the 30+ winds. I get there and the directors said I couldnt pull out untill the rest of the feild was in line for weigh in. That was the longest hour of my life. Talk about the hot seat. I was last to weigh in and had no idea what my fish weighed. I kinda had a hint but I had heard Casitas fish weighed small so I wasnt sure. Thanks again to all fo you that supported me and who know me personally. There will be a dvd available from the tournament soon so stay tuned to the HBC and mark your callenders for July 11th for HBC 2

Re: Congratulations Don Osborne
Congrats Don. Cool to see you got that fish on the old Castaic. Like Rob from Calfishing says, you got have guts to throw that bait in a tourney situation cuz the bait is heavy and gets thrown easily but you did it dude. Good job on the perfect execution. BTW, did you you use any trap rigs on the bait? I couldn't imagine throwing that thing without one, in any case awesome job man and good luck at the Clear Lake event.
