Crankbait Rod Choice

Buying my first rod actually designed for "cranking". On a budget and need to keep it under $100 as it will be a gift from my wife for Xmas. Having said that, I understand the high dollar rods are nice but they are simply out of the question. Here is what I am looking at based on reviews, stories, and price. If you have tried any of them please let me know what you think and if you have any other rods to recommend for cranking and under $100 please let me know.

BPS Crankin Stick ($69.99) almost 5 star reviews and known for a "fiberglass tip feeling"

St. Croix Mojo Cranking Rod ($99.99) almost 5 star reviews and a good 5 year warranty

Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Cranking Rod ($89.99) almost 5 star reviews glass rod that is 25% stronger than fiberglass

I am leaning towards the Skeet rod because its the only one out of the 3 that ive actually held and the only one that is glass...price is right too. But I am not 100% set on it. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks a lot!

All good choices however, St Croix makes a glass model in the Premier series that is designed just for crankin'. I have 3 and I love them. They are right around 100.00 maybe 110.00 at the most.

I have fished the St Croix Premier and Mojo models and both are excellent rods. A good friend of mine has the Skeet Reese rod and he loves it! Any of those rods would do you well.

Your lucky day ... Tacklewarehouse has the Lamiglas Excel Cast Rod 7' Med Hvy Glass on sale for $78.88 ... heard some good reports on it. Another cranking rod that's pretty good is the W&M Skeet S-Curve cranking rod for $89.

Here's a strong vote for the BPS Crankin' Sticks. I have four of them (7 1/2' MH, 7 1/2' M, 6 1/2' MH, 6 1/2' M) and they are great for casting crankbaits (billed and lipless), spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits. Their action is perfect for casting, they have just the right amount of sensitivity for retrieving, and their softer tip actions are great for better hooksets and for fighting fish. I've had and used mine for several years now and they have held up superbly.
If you're patient and wait for the inevitable BPS sales, you can get them for less than $69.95. They are an incredible buy at $69.95 but even better when they're on sale.

7'10 Shimano Clarus, Medium/Fast - around $87, good warranty and a works great as a cranking stick.
