St. Croix rods
St. Croix rods
I've been using a St. Croix Premier casting rod for about 5 years now. Love the rod. Couldn't believe the sensitivity level between this rod and the cheap rods I used before. Now I’m looking at purchasing a few more rods and have a question that I’m sure someone out there can help me with. Should i continue buying the Premier or step it up to the Avid series. The Premier costs around $90 and the Avid runs about $160. As you can see i could almost buy two Premiers for the price of one Avid. Is the quality of the Avids twice as good?
If anyone has fished the Premier and Avid series can you let me know if the money is worth spending for an Avid?

Re: St. Croix rods
I use the Premier for one thing and one thing only... cranking. this rod has great feel and i love the way it casts. I dont buy these rods for the price (meaning its only $90.00)... god knows i have alot of expensive worm and jog rods that i love also, i buy it cause its a damn good rod.

I agree with above, I only crank with the premier. The feel with the avid is great, makes fishing more fun when you feel EVERYTHING! I would put these rods up aginst any $200+ rod on the market. Personal favorite 6'8" spinning. Garrett Charter St. Croix Pro Staff.

I use St. croix all the time. They are far better than G-loses in my opion.I have used them for a long time,I have both avid and the premier. And recently i had one stolen and it is heart breaking. If money is not to big of a issue then i would go with the avid, and if it is go with the premier. The sad part is matched up with a carudo they are hard to beat. And if anyone knows anybody selling any used st. croix with a right hand curado let me know. This is the second time in about 2 years some one makes off with my favorite rods.First time they got 2.
Thiefs need to have their hands cut off at the wrist.

Since we have a couple pro staffers, let me ask you this.... What do you think of the Avid series compared to the Legend Elite's? Sensitivity, feel, and weight?

Aaron....heres the question of the day...let's just say you are thinkin bout' racin...do you buy (2) 300+HP cars? or just one 750 +HP car???
yep...you are better off with the Avid if we are talking Jig or Wormin Rod. The Premier IS a GREAT crankin rod though. $$$ is all relevant.

Re: St. Croix rods
I've been bass fishing for over a year, and the Avids are the only rods I have ever used.
I wiil not buy anything else other than the legend series from St. Croix.
You can't go wrong with Avids, there worth every penny.
Avids Rock.
See ya on the water!

Thanks for all your comments! This is why I love Westernbass. I'm going to go with the Avids then. Once I get them I will post and hopefully let you all know how right you were.
Again thanks for the help.

Re: St. Croix rods
There is the Legend Elite, Legend Tournament, Avid. The Elite is double in price compared to the Avid. Elites are about 3-4oz lighter and more sensitive than the Avid also. They all have a lifetime warranty, built here in the USA. Stcroixrod.com is the website and they have a rod selector if you would like to check out what you need, or email me fishwrangler@aol.com. Thanks for the questions, Mike Van Guilder Jr. St. Croix pro staff

Legend Elite is an awesomely light, sensitive rod.snapitoff2002 wrote:Since we have a couple pro staffers, let me ask you this.... What do you think of the Avid series compared to the Legend Elite's? Sensitivity, feel, and weight?
