curado castaic bearing problem

Post by nelsonlui »

Hi,

I've been using my castiac and curado to thorw big top water baits for stripers in the delta. They are the regular 200's. I got 50 braid on them. I haven't misused them such as casting and having the reel lock up. I've been noticing a small clicks sound when I reel especially during the start and stop reeling for the spook of similar stop and go retrieve. This is occuring during the engaged reeling mode. Seems as if the reel wants to disengage and engage back. Have I stripped the pinion gear? I need help in fixing it.

Also, I looking to get another reel for stripper fishing big top water lures. I don't want misuse my bass gear for this purpose. I don't want to spend 400 dollars either for the calcutta te's, and would like to adequate line capacity plus at least a 6.0:1 retrieve. Any suggestions?

The clicking can be from a worn yoke or even worn gears. Its hard to say without seeing the reel. I suggest sending the reel in for service/repair.

The Curado 300E would be my choice for the reel meeting your requirements. It holds plenty of line, has great cranking power, fast gear ratio and more than enough drag. Its also a lot less than $400 :)

Yep, Curado 300 is the answer! 400 te is over kill for Delta stripers.....
