Check out Steve@stevescustomrods.com for a rod made for you and they can be with any number of blanks i.e. Loomis, USA, etc.
His cell is 530-604-5277. You will like what he can make for you.

You might want to check out Esoxfishingrods.com for a good line of rods also. Bill K :)

I can recommend three custom lines of rods..

Performance Tackle - I have 5 of these in my boat and love them... These are the rods of choice of Tim Klinger, John Morrow, Craig McCoy, David Valdivia and more. They are made in the US with the exception of the Fuji components.

I don't have the number with me currently but, you can get it from 411 - Los Alamitos Ca, Performance Tackle

Wade Rods - I hear these are great rods too.. Not sure how his new place is coming along, could be tough to get but, I know those who have them love them. I have never personally held one.

I don't have their number with me currently either. I am sure if you wante it - guys on here have it.

Adaven Rods - Greg's been making these rods for many years now and they are highly sought after in the Colorado River area. He doesn't make many but, I expect to see more of them coming out of his office in the near future. I have never used one, but I have held a few and they feel great. Guys who use his rods love them too. adavenrodandreel@cox.net

You want custom, individual hand crafted rods.....

Beichman up in Redding! http://www.StevesCustomRods.net/

One other guy locally here on the Delta I'd recommend, DJ Rods Services, Jeff Skaggs, 925-625-2862

These two are absolutely awesome rod builders and understand the process better than any mass producing rod builder on the planet! They build exceptional rods using the best blanks available or what ever you tell em ya want.

I'd have to say George Roth in my opinion makes a beautiful custom rod. He specializes in Split Grip/No Foregrip designs and has blank knowledge beyond my comprehension.

The rod builder that I like is Georges custom rods out of Idaho. George Roth is one of the finest custom rod makers in the Western states. He will make any rod built to your specifications. He specializes in split grip/revolver style rods with the modified RF Lite reel seats and he uses the Forhan locking wrap on all of the single foot guides. He will contact you at each phase of the process and keep you informed of the progress. Give him a call and you will be impressed...

going to pile on here and go abit sideways - when you have a custom rod built how do you let your rodbuilder know what attributes in a rod that you are after?

Basically you talk to the rod builder and explain what you are trying to accomplish and how you fish - then he will suggest the best way to achieve that. My one difference was my frog rod - when I had Steve build it I had no idea what needed to be in it so I told him "Make me a good one!" and that's what I've got. I throw frogs and swinbaits on it and love it.

go into building a rod. Blank manufacturer, guides, reel seat, handles, thread used and such. When ya buy a mass produced rod, ya walk into a store and buy what they got. What ya see, is what ya get.

With a custom rod builder, you sit down and explain precisely what it is you want in a rod, the type of fishing you do and so forth. You get the oppurtunity to explain yer likes and dislikes so he builds a rod that will be the perfect fit to your likings. Often, he will share and explain the process with you so you get a better understanding yourself of what goes into building your rod, or any rod for that matter. It's special, precise, personal and individual care that can in no way be attained with a mass produced factory rod.

Greetings to all! Cooch and the others are correct about deciding on how to build a custom rod. I prefer to visit with my clients on the phone. Once I feel I have an idea of what they are looking for and how they'd like their rod constructed, I'll fill out an invoice and send it to my client by email. The invoice lists all the rod components, their cost and details of how the rod will be assembled. ie. 10" split rear grip / 2.5"x2.5", no foregrip, Fuji ECSM reel seat with extra threads trimmed. It is during this time we insure that I have all the details correct. When approved by my client, I then proceed with the construction process. If there is ever any question or if my client requests, I can send progress reports, or even digital pictures of my work.

One thing that I have learned in building rods for over 30 years, is rarely will two people fish the same technique in the same way. ie. I love to drop shot with a Shikari P 7000 spinning blank that has a noodle tip. I typically fish that rod with an 1/8 oz sinker. Mike Bucca on the other hand, uses the same blank with a 1/2 oz. sinker. I like a 6'6" rod...he likes a 6'9".

Only by asking as many questions as possible is a rod builder going to be able to build a rod that you will love to pick up. Also, it is the responsibility of the rod builder to inform the client of other options that may be more appropriate than what the client is aware of. ie. Rather than building a tip heavy, 8' flippin' stick, Merrick Tackle offers a very attractive balancing system. It is also very easy to use and doesn't look like it was added on. By adding the weight system, it will improve the balance, the tip will feel lighter and thus increase the sensitivity of that rod.

If you have any questions, I'd invite you to visit my website and look at the rods I build. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me and I'd be glad to answer them to the best of my ability.

Good luck..........George

Mac...great to hear from you! I appreciate the warm welcome. Mike did tell me about the thread, but I do peek in quietly from time to time.

As for the Rally on Clear Lake, when is it? I was out there about 1.5 years ago while some of my friends were fishing a BASS event. I ended up fishing myself as they were in official pre-fish, but I had a great time, anyway. I mostly fished the south end of the lake. I'd love to return and catch some "real" fish!

Thanks, again.........George

Dang George, you're just all over the place aren't ya? lol

You can add me to the list of happy George Roth customers. He's built me a custom cranking stick, a swimbait stick and a very special custom GLX.

Cal....thanks for joining in, I appreciate your comments. After posting last night, I thought of something else that can set one rod builder apart from another, and that is their warranty. Now, a big manufacturer can afford to replace one of their rods when it becomes broken, simply because of their volume. With a custom rod builder, it is going to be more difficult to fork out the extra time and money required to rebuild that rod. The blank is sent to the manufacturer for warranty evaluation, but you still have to rebuild that rod. Being there for your clients when they have a problem, is just as important as being there for the initial sale.

The same principle applies when you are building a rod for a client, you have a little brain flatus, and you glue up a 10" handle instead of an 11" handle. My approach to that problem is to order a new blank and begin the building process over again. Sure, once in awhile, it will be something I can remove and fix correctly, but certainly, not all the time. What I'll do is to finish the "incorrectly assembled rod", then sell it to someone that wants a rod built that way. In the end, everyone is a winner. That just happened to me on a GLoomis MB 844-IMX casting rod. To replace the blank / components wasn't cheap, but I'd rather do that than to ask my clients to compromise. For a rod that costs that much, it isn't fair to ask that of my clients.

Those are "my" thoughts, anyway.

Good fishing........George

Mac...

Sounds like a fun time, but I won't be able to make it this year. I had back surgery in March and besides still being in the recuperation process, it used up most of my vacation time. I'll sure keep it in mind for next summer. I have some rods I'd like to try out for frogs. We don't do that much here in Idaho!

Thanks, again........George
