Dee Thomas inducted into Bass Fishing Hall of Fame

Post by kb »

Congrats to Dee Thomas who will be inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame during the Bassmasters Classic this week. Dee will join Stan Fagerstrom, Basil Bacon and Bill Norman as 2007 inductees. This is the piece from the Hall of Fame web page. Dee didn't make the trip back but has asked Gary Klein to accept this award for him. I was honored to help Dee with his acceptance letter. Congrats Dee!

Dee Thomas is undoubtedly the most celebrated bass angler from the west coast and he stands tall among the legends of the sport. In 1975, Thomas traveled east to test his skill in the big B.A.S.S. Invitationals. He won the event at Bull Shoals with a revolutionary new technique he called “flippinâ€

It just wouldn't have been a Hall of Fame without him. I'm thrilled that they got this done while Dee is here to enjoy it. First the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame, then the California Sportsmen Hall of Fame and now the Professional Bass Fishing Hall of Fame. It makes for a fitting legacy to someone who enhanced our sport in so many ways. To this day Dee is still taking money from most of us in tournaments, he's still a wealth of information to anyone who bothers to talk with him and I am honored to know the man and call him a friend.

Again, Congrautlations Dee!!!

Congratulations Dee! It's about time! I got the pleasure of drawing him for day two of a BASS Open on the Delta a couple years ago, and I'll never forget that day. We caught a ton of fish, and I learned a lot about being a non-boater and flipping in shallow water. He helped me finish in the top 20, and he taught me a lot. I can't thank him enough for that! Congratulations again Dee!

Wow, what an accomplishment, being inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame while still being a threat to win tournaments today.

I think we all owe him a big thank you.

Congratulations Dee.

Back in 1999-2000? around there, Dee got 2nd place in the Redman regional on the Delta to Qualify for the All American for the first time. It was a big deal and Dee was really proud of his accomplishment (as were the rest of us) as it was the only major tournament classic that he hadnt qualified for in his awesome career. After the awards, Dee said hey kid you want this?? and gave me his plaque!!! I immedialely ran into the Hook and got a sharpie and had Dee autograph the back. "To my good friend Mike, Dee Thomas". To this day that is my favorite plaque and have it center on my wall in my home office.

Great Job Ol' Man!! I sure hope to fish with you again sometime soon. Maybe YOU can show ME something next time

Congratulations, Dee! Your selection is well deserved!

I still have one of the original telescopic handle Fenwick Flipping sticks that I won in a Western Bass tournament in around 1980 on Cachuma Lake.

Congratulations Dee! I'm proud to know you and to have fished in events with you. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and for being the character that you are. Not only do your skills and knowledge have few equals, your sense of humor and candid comments have made you a true legend of the sport. Your laugh is unmistakable and an indicator of what fishing should be all about, and that is fun even at the highest levels of competition.
