Delta Fishing in October

Post by durobi »

I am thinking of going fishing at the Delta about the middle of October and staying at Mariners Cove or Beacon Harbor. Since I've never fished the Delta any advice would be appreciated. Will the weeds be down , how is Oct. for fishing , and do you think where we are planning to stay is OK. :D :?:

You can catch them however you really want to that time of the year. Its possible to still get on a topwater bite. The flip bite will still be going as of the punch bite as well. Drop shoting deeper weed lines can produce a lot of numbers if your in the right areas with a big fish (if you got a little luck on your side). Cranking and slowroll spinnerbaits should be on as well. Maybe even a ripbait bite. :D

Delta is beast- We are talking mid October not late May, when Bub and Ish did what they did. FYI

Ish did win last September in the Stren event moved from Shasta. He was throwing frogs some but primarily pitching beavers into holes in the grass mats. Prior to the tournament, the top water bite was killing 'em but the wind picked up big time and a lot of the pros were scrambling.

Have top water baits (silent + rattling & frogs), crank baits (LV 500 & BDS3/4), punching gear & your favorite of senkos/jigs/creatures for pitching/flipping tulles and all you have to do is find them. Every year is differeent and this one takes the prize but current near tulle points can be the ticket.

If you find it tough to catch LMs, you can have a lot of fun with Stipers tossing huge top water early and late and crank/rip in the north end of Franks (flats 100-300 yards off shore). Follow the birds and/or keep moving until you find them.

The tournament was actually a FLW NG Series and not a Stren. The same time as the one is this year.
