American Bass Anglers (ABA) Ironman Kayak Series held their season opener on Feb. 12th. and 13th. on Lake Perris. 40 anglers from 5 different states including CA, AZ, NV, TX, and NY came out to see who would take home the title. It was a windy day with water temps in the 53 to 55 degrees. Anglers reported an extremely tough bite. They were mostly getting bit on finesse, drop shot/ Neko Rigs. Out of 40 anglers, only 3 limits were submitted on day 1 and 2 limits on day 2. Pat Hanning of Arizona was the only angler to limit on both days.
Jonathan Demonet of Downey, CA came out swinging on day and put up a colossal 101-inch limit anchored by a 22” big fish. He backed it up on day 2 with 4 fish for a 2-day total of 166.75 inches, almost 30” ahead of second place. He reportedly caught his fish on a jig.
