Does anyone know how many volts a ranger charger draws?

Post by biteme »

I have a on board three bank ranger charger. Im going to try and hook a inverter up to my truck to charge the batteries on the go. But I need to know how many volts it draws when charging. Does anyone know?

My bet is the inverter will have to be 2500 WATTS or bigger. I have a 1500 watt inverter and it barely runs my laptop.

120.

That is easy I think your question is how many watts are required as the volts are constant, but the amps of current is what changes.

For my 4 bank I was told I would need a 2000 watt generator. The draw was about 1800 watts. The exact draw depends on the model of charger you have, but a 2000 watt inverter should do the trick. Of course the fuel costs of running your truck for hours while the boat charges will be very expensive. Contact Dual Pro and they can answer your question.

Thanks guys for the replies. For the most part Im looking for something that will charge the batteries on the way to and from the lake. I was looking into the stealth system but its seems a bit pricey.

At 15 Amps output at ~14.5Volts, that's 217.5Watts per output.
(Volts x Amps = Watts)

Times 3 = 625Watts "output".

If the "Charger" is about 70% efficient. (Thats converting AC input to DC output, it's not one to one) it will take at least ~900 Watt converter.

Saying that, chargers can be tempermental. What your trying to do is go from DC to AC, back to DC :? . Some chargers handle this type of situation well, while others do not.

I have seen some chargers not work that well from a generator.

I would double your needs (1800Watt) and go from there. Hopefully the cost doesn't double as well. Remember your converter there is also a loss of probably 30% or more. That is why you also need more. There are also other reasons I won't get into.

I would also recommend what rmd said and try calling them. They have always been great help when I have called.

Hope this helps, although I know it's confusing.

Well I emailed stayncharge and got a call from them. Jim was VERY helpful and it sounds like I have a winner! I bought the tow and on board charger. 300.00 is what it cost me. Thats about what a inverter would cost anyway. With a three year warranty sounds like a GREAT deal!
